Long story short I'm looking to replace the clutch in my 3rd gen  (If you're curious, here's the op, though it's not all that interesting) https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-clutch-yep-already-urd.501786/ Would like to get it done in the next week or so.

    Two questions:

Can someone recommend a shop in the Oakland area?

Has anyone swapped in the URD stage 3 on this truck? Any comments on it?

Heavy clutches are for big power, you'll just wear out your leg, master and slave cylinders for no real reason. You hear mustangs with stage 3's flaring revs just to prevent stalling, it's annoying and taxing for no reason.

I'd look at OE replacement but aftermarket. BUT!! I've already seen wrong clutch parts installed on a 3rd gen 3.5.

Because its a new engine there isnt a lot of demand for aftermarket and many distributors are getting it wrong so far.

Because you have to effectively disable your truck to replace the clutch, I would want to ensure the right parts are going in. Which means OEM. Around 600$ Pressure plate and disc.

You may have hot spots on the flywheel so it may need to be machined as well.

I'd considered those points. URD says the pedal is only slightly heavier. This is why I was hoping to get some info based on someone's experience. What were the wrong clutch parts you saw installed?

Isn't Aisin the OEM? Napa has this clutch kit for $312.

From your other thread. The Stage 3 is not that much more leg work, just less engagement zone

My clutch slipped going up the steepest part of Marin Ave (25% grade) in Berkeley 4 years ago. After 2 slips, I stopped and put it in 4LO. Ran the same clutch for 35K more miles over 4 years with no issues.

My wife managed to burn it out in 3 days about 1 year ago at 72K miles.

I went to Transmission Discount Center in Vallejo. Despite the shitty name, they come highly recommended and are great to deal with. They put in an Aisin clutch. I was used to the heavier TRD OR clutch and the Aisin is too soft IMO. I've never driven a 3rd gen, but if you like the heavy clutch feel, I would go with the OEM TRD OR or the URD stage 3. My newer clutch is very forgiving, but I'd rather have a heavier pedal with a more solid bite. I've owned 10 manual transmission vehicles and the Tacoma was possibly the least forgiving...at first. I miss the heavy pedal and my left leg has gotten significantly weaker ;)

Is that why you don't walk in a straight line?
