Not really. I've used several kinds of wax and rubbing compound before, but never a clay bar. Who's do you like?

Just get a Meguiars kit from a big box store or Amazon. $20. Comes with two clay bars and a bottle of detail spray. You just work the clay into a little pad, soak the area with detail spray, and rub the clay back and forth. When it gets contaminated, fold the clay and go at it again with a fresh surface. It removes above surface bonded contaminants from paint. In your case, it might remove some of the paint transfer- results are hard to predict. Might remove a bunch, might not. If not, you'll likely need a buffer and compound.

Not a Tacoma question but still Toyota related. Does anyone know if I can use paint thinner on my Sienna tan leather seats to remove red paint from a melted kids toy? Leather cleaner and Goo Gone do not work, and not sure if I will just have to live with it or take it to a professional retailer or what.:mad::mad:

Anyone have suggestions of sealing/protecting Plasti Dip? I plan on putting matte black on my fender flares, bumper assembly, grille, grille surround and brush guard. Something rather permanent or at least semi-permanent that will make bugs, red mud, etc. easier to clean off and keep from staining.

Forgive the very basic question. Prior to picking up my new taco about 2 weeks ago, we only had older (14 & 17yr) cars that got a hand wash rarely, and mostly a car wash. I'd like to treat the tacoma a bit better, but am lost at this point.

For washing, is a two bucket with a microfiber mitt and a grit guard in the rinse bucket good? 1-2 large microfiber drying towels for drying?

I get really lost in wax vs sealant. You use one or the other right? Are they the same thing simply a choice between a natural carnauba vs synthetic polymer product?

Can you use the sealant on the windows as well, or should I stick with something like RainX?

My plan is interior clean -> exterior wash -> exterior dry -> wax/sealant -> quick detailer for touch ups. Does this sound adequate and if so how often should I be applying sealant? Truck is parked in a driveway, no trees overhead but may be moved to the garage if I can clear space and avoid wife agro.

I really don't want a glossy sheen. Maybe satin at most.

I'd go with a Sealant. They typically last longer than waxes. Wax vs Sealant-- one is naturally occurring, one is not. Sealants are nothing more than "synthetic waxes". But most over the counter "waxes" now days contain synthetic elements as well. Yep- waxes typically contain some carnauba or montan wax. Sealants are typically synthetic polymers. Waxes have a deep, wet look to them. Sealants are typically bright and glossy.

    Some of my favorite sealants:
    Duragloss 111
    Menzerna Powerlock
    Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3.0
    McKee's 37 HiDef Sealant

A really nice "hybrid" is Collinite 845. It's a combo carnauba + polymers. Tough as nails.

A nice spray sealant is Ultima Paint Guard Plus. Blackfire Crystal Seal is also great. You simply spray these on a panel, spread, and walk away. They disappear in just a few seconds. Doesn't get much easier. The new Meguiars Ultimate Fast Finish works the same way. Don't be fooled- they're super easy to apply and they have some great durability. Not as long as a traditional Sealant, but considering how easy they are to apply, you can seal again later in about 10 minutes.

Note: Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax is actually a paint Sealant. It's a decent product despite being a big box store product.

You'll get 1000 opinions on what's the "best" Sealant. Take a look at the Autogeek.com store. Any Sealant they sell is gonna be a solid product.

Ever since i got my truck back from the recall, i've been seeing lots of water spots that have been tough to remove. I bought the chemical guys water spot remover gel but I don't think it does enough. Any suggestions?

I decided to clean my wheels with what I thought was a good product, Eagle One All Wheel and Tire cleaner and followed the directions as written. It left a residue that will not come off and might have damaged the clear coat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. XD-Addict Wheel.jpg

Don't use rubber cleaners on aftermarket wheels and never let products dry on. That seems to get them to cake on.

Chemical Guys Interior Detailer. It has a heavenly Pina Colada smell (but it fades away quickly if you don't like Pina Coladas... or getting caught in the rain).

My truck got the most disgusting its been since I've owned it and I detailed the inside this weekend. I left my windows down while I took down three trees so there was tree dust errywhere. Only took 6 sprays on a MF towel for this stuff to clean everything. I was impressed.
