I have question regarding a stem cushion set that I ordered from Wheelers to use when assembling a new pair of Bilstein 4600HD struts for my truck. There are 2 different sized cushions in the set. A pair of smaller cushions with a nipple on 1 side & a pair of larger cushions that are flat on both sides. In what order do i assemble these cushions? Do the smaller ones go under to strut mount with the nipple facing up with the larger flat cushions on top? Or vice versa? I could figure it out by disassembling the old struts, but I was hoping to preassemble to the new set & just swap it out.

My question is in regards to the front struts. I have new coil springs, along with the bilstein's. I figured I'd replace the stem cushions when I put together the new strut & coil. Just a little confused as to the order the cushions go when assembling the strut.

My bad. I thought the coil fitted up against the rubber pad under the tophat w/o any bushings keeping it centered :anonymous:. Carry on

Here's a pic of a front strut disassembled and 5100's with Eibach 620lb springs assembled. To my knowledge its: concave side of smaller metal plate faces upwards, then rubber bushing with interior raised lip, then top hat with rubber shock boot, then bigger rubber bushing without interior raised rim, then bigger flatter washer with smaller concave lip facing downwards, then nut.

Weird how my 5100 photos aren't showing up. Anyone see them?

Thanks! That's the orientation that made the most sense to me. I had a shop assemble my struts the last time I replaced them, so I didn't know that there was a difference in the size of the stem cushions.

Hey just curious, how did the stem cushion set from Wheeler's work out? I'm looking for some that fit the 4600 series Bilsteins. Thanks for any info!
