Anyone else here a fan of Stephen Kings dark tower series? Production of the movie has started recently and thought it'd be fun to hear opinions about casting and what not from other fans. So far the cast list for the main characters is:
    Idris Elba as Roland
Matthew McConaughey as the man in black
    Tom Taylor as Jake
    Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre

Personally I love the McConaughey as the man in black choice. I think Idris will do well as Roland even though he doesn't quite match the description from the books. Idk anything about Tom Taylor but Jake was awesome in the books so I hope he nails it. Jackie Earle Haley should make a good Sayre. It doesn't look like Eddie or Susannah will be in the first movie but I'm looking forward to seeing who they pick. I've heard maybe Aaron Paul as Eddie which I think would be fun.

I thought they were good. I've read the whole series twice now. They tie in with a bunch of his other stories. The man in black from the dark tower is Randall Flagg from the stand.

That might be my favorite of his. Either that or the long walk. I've read both of those a few times.

Thread Resurrection time. I've read the whole series 3 times now. Every couple of years I'll start again. So it's easy for me to say that this is my all time favorite series of books. Looking forward to the movie release. Didn't expect Idris to be cast as Roland for obvious reasons but he's a tremendous actor so maybe it will work.

I've read the first 3 or 4 books a long time ago. I liked them but my interests moved on from fiction and I never finished the series. Looking forward to the movie.

I've read the first 4 or so books but then lost interest, but I have read many of his books over the years.

I dont care about the story, the only reason i would see it are for two of my favorite actors. Idris Elba being at the top of the list.

The movie got ripped to shreds by the critics. How was it from a normal person's point of view?

I was kind of surprised with the way they took elements from the sixth book and folded them into the first one.
Also the portrayal of the technology from north-central positronics I believe was spot on.
If you look at it as a continuation of the story You'll be good. :D
