How much weight can our tailgate handle?

Can you get a video of that? Including scale evidence of the crate weight?

Also interested in seeing the wife who can dead lift her 250# share.

OP is asking about putting 500+ lbs on his tailgate. I think you're off topic.

You offer a suggestion that vendors offer a solution to make the tailgate more rigid. This seems to infer a solution to OP's issue. Then you go on to offer anecdotal information about what you've experienced loading items on the tailgate that do not weigh 500lbs. So what is your point?

 

This is what I would do. What must go into the truck must also come out and you want to do it safely. A shallow ramp of a trailer would be much more safer to get this job done.

OP is asking if it's possible to put 500#s on the tail gate. So I tell him that I've been able to put a washer and myself on it which equates to roughly 400#s. My experience shows that you can put 400#s on this tailgate stock. Maybe OP can lighten his load to 400#s.

I then offer solutions to him on how to reinforce his tailgate by showing him solution products that may help solve his situation. I also tag the vendor to my post and they can possibly chime in with possible specifics or suggestions about how their product will or will not work for OPs situations.

Renting a U-Haul or just buying a small trailer is definitely the smarter choice and in the long run that'll probably be the way to go. There's just some times you need to do something spur of the moment.

 

How big are the crates? No forklift nearby that you can borrow or give someone a fiver to load?

 

My sled is almost 500lbs I built a simple deck with 3 2x6 and plywood

 

basically 3.5' cubes, unfortunately no forklifts around and it would be a major snafu to try and arrange one. Not biggy

I'm liking this option I've got some 2" square tubing and some 1/2" ply laying around. I might just build a torsion box style bed extension hmmm. now ya got me thinking thanks dude.

I'm 350 and teo of my buddies are 180 and 170 rerespectively. We sit and enjoy adult beverages on the tailgate from time to time. No issues...

 

Someone on here called Corporate about this and they stated that the tail gate is rated to hold 0 pounds
