I had no symptoms, it just failed one day after work when I started up the truck. Made this horrible gurgling noise like the fan was sucking in water.

Mine broke last saturday. It was working perfectly fine, I had a cab full of people, went to get lunch. Came back and started the truck like an hour after, and it immediately made a loud grinding/rattling sound from the glove box area. The actual plastic blower part broke, the center spindle cracked, and the shaft from the motor wouldn't catch the flat part of the spindle and it would just make a nasty rattling noise.

I temporarily fixed it with zip-ties, but it would slip when turned to high, or come loose after a few days. Not a permanent solution, but the blower motor is really easy to access. You'll need a 5.5mm socket to remove 3 screws underneath the glove box. You do not need to take off the kick panel or even touch glove box, other than identifying if the blower motor is cracked in this fashion.

I'm actually at the dealership right now since they're replacing it under warranty, but the work order is an estimated 2hrs to complete. Keep in mind, this part takes 1 minute to take off, and another to put back on. But the dealership has to make that warranty money from Toyota somehow.

Keep in mind, warranty pays half of regular book rates. Seems like a lot of time at 2 hours even at warranty rates. But cleaning, inspection, and some other nonsense is all factored in for the tech and dealership to make money.

My second blower went out yesterday. First was replaced by dealer under warranty. Same issue plastic cone cracked and will not turn with loud grinding noise. I ordered a after market blower from this thread and will update what happed. Thanks for the information!

My AC blower fan went on Friday. I only have 4K miles on my truck. I got lucky. I called the dealer, was told the part was backordered, that I would be put on a waiting list with 3 others, and that I'd be given a rental car. When I got to the dealership they told me that 4 fans just came in and had me out in 2 hours.

I live in Phoenix and had my Gen 2 for 10 years. The only thing that failed was my thermometer/compass. Haven't had the rear diff issue yet, but I really hate how the gen 3 shifts compared to the gen 2.

    My order from Rockauto:

    2016 TOYOTA TACOMA 3.5L V6
    FOUR SEASONS 75846 Blower Motor $ 39.79 $ 0.00 1 $ 39.79
    Shipping Ground $ 7.99
    Order Total $ 47.78

And what I got in the mail today: 5.5 mm socket (ordered from Amazon) who the heck has fraction metric sockets? I never even heard of that till now.

Nothing like turning wrenches on your own brand new 'under warranty' uber-reliable Toyota Tacoma, eh boys?

I’ve had mine replaced TWICE since I got the truck, in 13k miles. Clearly these blower motors are still a weak point, left over from 2nd gens. Bearing noises and failures galore.
