Don't tell your wife, but a RTT will do zero to stop a bear that wants to get in. If you have something inside the locked truck and the bear wants it, the bear gets it. They stick their claws into the tiny gaps between doors and literally rip those doors right off.

Camp smart, and you won't have any issues. Camp dumb (like me), and the occasional bear will show up, sniff, and leave. I had a black bear rummage through my campsite in Colorado 4-5 years ago while I lay in a tent a few metres away (my fault, totally preventable). Had a huge grizzly show up at my campsite this past summer in the mountains of BC (known grizzly country) - scared it off. Have seen tons of black bears on various hiking trails around BC - never any issues,

I'm not sure I see much value in a bed tent. You have to remove cargo to get in the tent or even set it up. I'd just opt for a ground tent. The appeal of the RTT is quick setup, you can leave your bedding in place, and the fact it is above your cargo area.

Pretty quick once you've practiced a time or two and set the straps to approximately the right lengths.

Ten minutes or so taking my time.

Pull out of bag, unroll and spread over the truck bed. Stick the three shock-corded poles through their sleeves and put in the pockets on one side. Loosely attach the straps on that side. Walk around to the other side, loosely attach the straps and put the poles in their pockets. Walk back around adjusting to where stuff needs to be.

It'll take a while longer the first time. Best to practice in your driveway with a beer or two. :)

Not if you choose one without a floor, see my earlier posts. Of course the cargo for setting up camp is coming out anyway so that's moot. Then again I don't carry a bunch of crap I don't need, habit from multi-day backpacking trips.

Finally convinced my wife to go camping but she insists of sleeping on the truck. This tent looks like something she'd love. Which model did you choose? I have the exact same truck as yours so I'd get the same one. Thanks!

Have the napier sportz truck bed tent (long bed version). It's well ventilated and has minimal condensation, but id rather set up a rtt than a truck bed tent if it's raining out (love camping in the rain).
The cons; the poles are made of fiberglass and tend to crack easily. ( ive had them replaced twice on warranty).

I would have played the angle for acquiring more firearms.

It is Rightline Gear model 110765.

The only thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't have an awning to protect the opening during rain if you need to get in or out of it. I need to work that out, possibly fly a silnylon tarp for those times.
