If you're buying a brand new truck the price diff from a 4 to a 6 shouldn't really be a massive deciding factor. I would think.

Lol dude. Never thought I'd be on a forum where people get so uptight about every minutiae of a stupid truck. Both engines have their place. As far as I've seen, most who bought the 3rd gen with the 2.7(especially with the MT) are pleased with their choice.

I requested a comparo chart of the 2.7 vs the 3.5 HP/torque curves and the 3.5 won all the way across the charts. Personally I don't need the extra power of the 3.5. The 2.7 with MT does all I need and gets nearly 24MPG/500 miles per tank on my daily commute each week. It also doesn't feel gutless. It's geared perfectly and accelerates out well from a stop. Only lacks power in the upper midrange requiring you to downshift to get the torque where you need it.

Those of us who bought the econo models with the 2.7/5MT AC got a truck with a Japanese built powertrain and a body built in San Antonio which seems to have less QC issues than the Baja built tacos--many of which have problems and are DC 3.5s. If you don't see all the bitching on the main page of the forum then you aren't reading it. We also spent less than $25k on them.

Anyways, I hope you love your truck. There is room on the forum for 3.5 and 2.7 engine lovers. Relax, have a beer, and chill brother. We all love tacos.

I'll be glad when Toyota adds a V8 or diesel so we can have more of these threads. :anonymous:

Thanks everyone! Very stoked on it. Any suggestions with breaking in an engine (other than what the Owners Manual says)? Is engine breaking fine...should I limit my RPMS.. etc? This is my first new car so breaking in an engine is foreign to me.

I bought a 2.7L, 4x4, MT, Access Cab. Why? It was all I needed. From what you're going to use it for, I think this truck will be great.

Save the extra money, you're a recent college grad. Hell, put the extra money for more experiences and travel!

Owners manual. Everything else you read on here is just going to be opinion.

    Enjoy!

I broke my 2016 4 cyl in by stomping on the throttle for 4 or 5 seconds then waiting about a minute then repeating. I did this A LOT for the first 100 miles. I get great gas mileage. Zero oil consumption...same as everyone else. Probably does not matter much. Just don't baby it. Jmo.
The engine will feel "tight" for the first 200 miles.

I have a '17 TRD OR AC 6cyl with tow package and I love it. You do not have to buy the premium technology package with the OR or the Sport, so you don't have to get the sunroof, BSM or the other unnecessary stuff at least on the 2017's. You could also get the SR5 with A 6cyl for less than Sport or OR. The factory suspension and tires are fine for me and many others here. The locker is a nice feature, the only gimmicky thing is the crawl control, but it's still kinda cool to have as an option. I was contemplating the 4cyl but not being able to tow was a deal breaker for me. A lot of people say that they don't need to tow (I couldn't with my old truck) but once you have the option, I've found that I tow a trailer quite often and it's very handy. Also the power and shifting issues that some have had are not a problem for me. The trans and engine work fine for me and the ECT option works great for when I'm towing. I get about 18 mpg in town and up to around 22 so far on the highway.

After a full warm-up/driving gingerly, I applied power liberally on the road trip home from picking it up.
I'm convinced there's a factory ecu break-in tune for the first few hundred miles, mine felt like it was missing 25-30hp/tq at first.

yeahhh..the V6 need moar power, but I am satisfied. I bought a Taco, not a Raptor. It is forsure enough for most light duties.
