    I'm looking for feedback from SR5 owners who put the Off Road Bilstein 4600 shocks on. Do you think it is much different? And if so, how? Also, how much did you pay to have them switched out? Thanks to all.

    I was wondering the same thing as the stock shocks on my 2007 Taco seem to be at the end of life judging by the (bouncy) last beach fishing excursion on OBX. I have no lift on the truck and am trying to decided on what to replace the old shocks with and it seems like the 4600's are the way to go but also been wondering about benefits of the 5100's. Used as a daily driver and surf fishing on 4x4 beach runs along the NC coast, Outer, and Core banks. TiA

    Keep in mind the bilstein 4600s you buy off the shelf are not identical to the ones Toyota puts on your truck. Or so we've been told...

    Was in Avon a couple weeks ago and found my truck to be pretty bouncy on the sand also. Pretty sure I hit the bump stops a couple times and this was at low speed. My truck is a 15 so I am not so hopefully mine are not worn out yet. Truck also bounces when towing a pop up camper. Not sure what kind of shock would give nice highway ride but still firm enough to prevent a bunch of bounce.

    Smitty - I've read that the 4600's from bilstein are better than the Toyota OEM "Bilstein's" that seem to use Toyota's spec's not the 4600 spec's from what I've seen. I've been unable to locate Toyota's spec's for their Bilsteins. Is that assumption correct? Should I be looking at a different manufacturer?

    DesertTaco - I'm seeing $328 for a set of the 4600 and $366 for the 5100 set on Amazon. Seems to be about the same at Summit and other online sources. For $38 bucks more is the difference that it's just an adjustable front strut or is it actually a better/more robust setup? The possibility of a 1-2" lift is on the table for the future in a year or two.

    Mossyjaw - Does your 15 have the yota bilsteins on it? I was out on the South Core Banks last month and it did fine at high and low speeds with a medium load and one passenger but it was nice deep moist sand conditions. On the other hand I was at Fort Fisher a week ago and was bouncing all over and hitting bump stops every now and again at slow speeds. Some of which was thanks to idiots not taking down their tires and rutting up the place. But I've also noticed it on-road that the vertical bounce takes too long to settle which leads me to believe that the shocks are at end of life.

    So the question that Pbird posed first about is it even worth the upgrade to aftermarket shocks over OEM? Since OEM is also made by Bilstein.

    That's a rip off. They aren't anything special.
