Right, but it seems like every person nearing the point of getting their truck back is waiting on 1 part. Toyota is dragging their feet because they can. I know the ordeal is a cluster f--k just hope it ends soon.

What are they doing if you have a TRD OR? It is not on the list but it is seeping.

I think it's been a warranty repair for others in that position now.

    depends on the dealer.

took my 2017 OR in for 10k service and showed them the weeping on my diff.
they said that was not enough for them to do anything to it. they checked the torque on the bolts and sent me on my way.

According to the recall if there is any weeping it is still considered a leak and needs to be fixed.

You are right about that but as a OR owner with a weeping diff I was told that only is true if your truck is on the recall list. Now in my case the dealer did decide that it was a leak but for me they supposedly changed the gasket and then added about 4lbs of RTV sealant to it. I have been on the phone with Toyota corp and they insist that this is the proper fix for those trucks not on the recall list. From what it sounds like each dealer is handling this situation differently.

So here it is, the middle of August.... Recall was issued in April 5 1/2 months ago..... The majority of weeping/leaking trucks still have not been fixed and parts still MIA. Yet trucks using the same parts fly of the production line.

Toyota is just another corrupt Car manufacturer using cheap parts shitty customer service resting on yesteryear's laurels.

this is what baffles me about this shit, they have no parts to fix what
we paid good money for but have plenty of parts to keep making new trucks.

I've said before. Manufacturing defects can take years to get flushed out of the supply chain.Who is going to eat the cost of defective parts and or shutting down manufacturing? It's cheaper for Tijuana and San Antonio to keep slapping in the known defective parts and pass the loss - cost onto the customer.

You're being played. Corporate knows exactly what they are doing.

My barber drove off the road on the florida turnpike after her wheels locked up. The drive shaft i think or the axel ended up snapping. SHe was lucky she got away unhurt. There wasnt a recall at the time. SHe had it fixed, the next time she took it in, it was leaking oil from the area where it broke initially. They ended up fixing the leak too.

In a Tacoma I assume? Was her truck on the recall list?

Honestly, I think this is the preferred option at this point. If the fluid level is ok, I'd prefer to have the diff cleaned up and snugged up and sent on my way with my truck. I'd watch it carefully and, if it starts leaking again, hopefully Toyota will finally have parts available and it'd be a more reasonable timeline for a fix.

The way Toyota seems to be handling this issue (inconsistent dealers, lack of parts, OR not on the list, etc.) sure does invite criticism from frustrated owners who feel the company has let them down.

^^THIS^^ Yesterday, I crawled under my truck and scrubbed the diff off and took pictures again. Will see if the torque did the trick or if I have to keep fighting the fight.

    Good luck with yours....

THis happened prior to the recall coming out on her Taco. I guess she was one of the many who had the issue that generated that recall?

    See build page.
Ill give it a shot. Im also trying to close a deal with the dealership I originally purchased my truck from in regards to a trade. They somewhat agreed to help me get out of it and into a 17 Tundra and treat it as a special case and not a regular trade in as I did not plan on doing this trade originally but more so to get out of this headache that this rear diff has created.

The more I step foot on that dealership and pass through the tacomas, the more it makes me think twice about another tacoma. I have an sr5 4x4 and thinking of going into a TRD offroad 4x4 if I do decide to get another taco. Theres one in the lot. MGM trd offroad 2017. Not listed under recall. I want to do it but like I mentioned, the sales person said there is no guarantees that it wont be affected since their are trucks affected now that arent on the recall list. :(
