Chevy is clean, but the ecoboost does sound nice...Ford FTW!

 

Complications with the ecoboost turbo and carbon build up on valves might concern me. I'd lean toward a naturally aspirated motor for those reasons. The 6.2L I think is a very proven motor.

 

THIS. OP. Turbos don't belong on gasoline trucks. Get you a trusty 5.3 Chevy V8. You can find those anywhere. I love a lot of what Ford is experimenting with, but I wouldn't want to front the cost.

 

Why not look at a Tundra if you need a full size? Two guys at work each have fully loaded 2016 Sierras and they both have nothing but problems. One has been to the dealer 10 times for warranty work and the other one has been to the dealer so many times it is currently up for sale and he is buying a Tundra. Not a Ford fan by any stretch after my wife's 2010 Fusion money pit, but given your choice of Ford vs. Chevy, I would reluctantly say Ford.

 

GM builds garbage. Make sure you get rid of it before the warranty is up. Not sure if you need AC or not, but the AC systems in the GM products all fail. To give yourself an idea what you are in for with a GM product, call your local Chevy dealer and inquire about getting a condenser for a Silverado. They are backordered by 35,000 units and its taking 60 days to get your AC fixed under warranty. Also, my transmission and rear end failed at 100,000 miles.

I thought I was the only one, when ever I see a Chevy or GMC the first thing I notice are the square wheel wells, doesn't matter how beautiful the rest of the truck is, it's like a giant hairy mole on the lips of a beautiful woman. Man I was looking at the tundra but I feel like it is 10 years old on the interior? Heres the way I see it with the problems I have on my tacoma and spending time at the dealer for warranty work ...well shoot even if I get a new Chevy or Ford and it has me sitting at the dealer once a month at least I would enjoy driving it. The tacoma just really drives terribly and the seats are uncomfortabel

last truck was a chevy went for over 100k miles and i never had a major problem with it...should have kept it i guess

Everybody here loves to shit on the Ford and Chevy reliability while the turd gen hasn't been the glowing example of reliability either. It's just a Toyota Tacoma enthusiast thing....

I had a GMC Denali for several years and never a single issue with it. It was powerful and beautiful truck inside and out...I thought I'd go back to something a little more practical for commuting; economical fuel-wise but man these Tacomas aren't doing a whole lot better than the newer full sizes out there now.

 

To clarify, are those photos of the actual trucks you are deciding between or are those just photos of lifted versions of each truck?

I kind of understand what your getting at here, but I think he's asking about the "smartest" choice for him. I'm sure OP knows what he likes from a style standpoint.

 

I switched over to Toyota for its famed reliability and I'm experiencing major engineering oversights with the powertrain and reading about other Taco drivers daily issues. Not very inspiring.

Also my frame is already rusting.

 

People post all day here seeking opinions and ideas of others from the trim or model of Tacoma to the modifications on those Tacomas.... not sure how what he's posting about is much different? I mean yeah I get what you're saying as far as asking for somebody to hold your hand and help you choose a truck but I think more or less he's just asking for people's opinions and experiences on the other brands. Maybe there's something he hasn't thought of yet that another member would bring to mind.

The towing capacity increased along with the MPG's. I'm just blown away at the v8 MPG's being so high. If they offered the eco boost or v8 in the ranger body, I would pick that over the Tacoma any day. The F150 body is just too big for most people who daily a truck in big cities.

id make sure they put quality parts on them before deciding.
between them, id choose the chevy as long as it has the 6.2.

 

If you go Eco-boost and expect reliability, google Low-Speed Pre-Ignition. If you go that way anyhow, we'll see you back here in a couple years. I have no idea why more enthusiasts aren't concerned about it.

One day I'll likely end up in a Ford, but if it had to be soon it would be 18' 5.0 V8.

I'd have bought a F150 over the Taco if Fords pricing was better and I couldn't have gotten a Pro.

Should add my commute is about 100 miles round trip. Economy is important to me.
