I have been working for a while to get solid info on what ARB locker and bearings to use for my axle. The local Toyota dealership got the bearings wrong 3x, kept ordering what I assume are 8.75 carrier bearings. Eventually I called East Coast Gear Supply and they helped out a lot!

So for the Tacoma SR 3rd gen with Auto Trans they use the 8in axle. The Manuals have the 8.75. This can be verified by the 3rd member bolts being 12mm for the 8in and 14mm for the 8.75.

The 8in uses the same RD132 from the old Toyota 8in in the past. The older 8in was called a TV6, the new 3rd gen is still an 8in but is a TV6C, there are differences, like 30 spline.

So a master axle rebuild kit for an older 8in will not work on a new 3rd gen.

Side carrier bearings and race for the TV6C are Timken JLM104948 AND LM104912

I would recommend using ECGS because they are helpful and will answer technical questions without hesitation. They knew exactly what I did and didn't need. They also handle any issues easily.

If you are doing a regear you can obviously use old 8in gear sets but will need a custom install kit.

Anyway, I had a heck of a time getting solid answers on the forum, since most people have the TRD, so I decided to post my info and ramblings so anyone searching in the future might find something useful. Enjoy.

I'll try and post install pics here pretty soon. I am using factory gears so it will be pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the info. I found them to be very helpful as well. I have the 8 inch with the 430 axle ratio and wanted to add a lock right locker which is the locker that replaces the spider gears inside the existing open case. I called PowerTrax , lock right and Eastcoast gear supply and no one could verify that it would work they told me it might be the same as the old 8 inch V6 as you said but the new 8 inch has a larger ring gear bolts so they are not interchangeable. just wanted to add my findings about the old vs new 8" ring gear bolts bolts are different. They told me at this time my only options were a complete case like you're doing ARB or Detroit locker or detrot tru trac.
