    It runs cool 99% of the time, then one percent of the time, usually at sustained highway speeds the gauge goes up to 3/4 temp, then revving the engine brings it back down.

    Far as I know the most affordable way to test for a head gasket/head crack is to pressurize the cooling system and see if it holds?

    Have you made sure the condenser isn't clogged up? We had a dodge that was getting hot on the highway, the radiator and condenser were clogged up with grass seeds from driving around in a field. Yeah you could pressurize the system and see if it holds. A leakdown test would tell you as well. A compression test would catch it if it's leaking fast enough.

    Key question: Are you losing any coolant or water from the radiator? (not the overflow tank). No lost coolant = blown head gasket unlikely.
