i towed a 2100 pound Coleman pop-up for 5 years with just a simple ball hitch with nary a problem. When i upgraded to a 2700 pound Rpod the dealer persuaded me i needed a Blue Ox anti-sway weight distribution hitch. Great hitch no doubt. But i am 80 years old and the hitch head alone weighs almost 50 pounds and handling it is like wrestling a steel octopus. Fact is that after several outings i have developed a hernia!
My 2012 Tacoma Double Cab is a 4.0L Automatic with factory tow package. My owners manual recommends sway bars towing over 2000#. i would appreciate any experience about whether I need/benefit from AS/WD hitch or whether simple sway bars would get the job done. THANKS!

Anderson makes a WDH with Sway control which supposed to work as good as any out there. It looks different because it has no bars of any kind. It is lighter than the others by as much as 35lbs. They use item number 3350 to identify it. May be worth your time to look into it. It is $475.00

Thanks Butch. Still not sure I need a WDH but will look into Anderson.

Take a short trip without the load bars connected on your WDH....that'll give you a pretty good idea if it is necessary or not with your new trailer.
