Some of my favorites under $10:

    Macanudo Robust
    Rockey Patel Edge
    LaGloria Cubana Serie R
    Anything Torano

Some things to keep in mind:
    - Many brands come in a natural(light wrapper) or maduro (dark wrapper). The darker the wrapper, the stronger the taste, and the more likely you'll get sick as hell smoking it as a first timer
    - Some cigars require a punch, some require a cutter, but they all require a proper cigar match for lighting
    - Like others have posted, a travel humidor is a good idea. Keeps them hydrated, and from getting broken

Stay away from the black and milds unless you're attended a theme party...

No problem :) For a cheap humidor, try a zip lock bag and a 'Water Pillow'. These are real easy to use and cheap. Soak them in distilled water for about 10 seconds and put them in the zip lock bag they came in. Shake off any excess water and drop them in a zip lock freezer bag. You can get them at any cigar/tobacco shop.

Just FYI, if you have different kinds of cigars in one bag their flavors may start to mix together. For a first timer on a short trip, you won't notice.

If it were me, I'd just take the lot of cigars and put them in your room. Take two or three with you in a bag when you go out and the others will stay fresh in your room.

When you get back, try pipe tobacco. You'll be hooked then! For me, I like cigars and pipe because it makes me slow down and chill out. Its a nice break from my Type A personality.

just an update here to see if you guys might have any other recommendations.

Made a few connections at my local tobacco shop. so far ive had

Por Larranaga- first cigar i smoked... it was ok.

    Monte Cristo #1- decent...

    Romeo y Juliet Vintage- good!

I bought another Romeo y Juliet 1975. i will have to see how that one is.

What others do you all recommend from this selection?

Also, i will get the occasional piece of tabacco on my tongue... sometimes in the back of my throat... burns like hell! how do i avoid this?

    thanks!
