When I bought my 13 it only came with a 2 year warranty. So far going on 5 years no issues. If I got a 16-18 die to issues warranty is a must at least 5 or am extended in it.

If you buy new, you should buy a extended warranty for as long a length as you can. Seeing as the 3rd gen is only a few years old, there may be other potential issues that haven't popped up yet. This will give you peace of mind.

I'd go with a second gen. Fewer unknowns and lower upfront cost.

If you want to make your truck into that beast you included a picture of, buy used (I think that's @Nate87 by the way). You're going to be hacking it up pretty bad anyway. It's a waste to buy new then swap out all those perfectly good parts when you start modding. Unless you're totally loaded and just don't care at all about spending a ton of money. That extra 5-7K is enough to build a pretty awesome truck.

Thanks for the advice brother, I think you're right.

Overall I like the looks of the second gen better, especially with the TRD Sport package.

I found a decent CPO in my area for about $5000 less than a new one.

I'm sure the new ones are great but i don't know if I'll be able to get over the side profile of the 3rd gen. It looks like a clown shoe to me.

My last several vehicles had all been new so I changed it up and went with used. I had wanted a Taco for so long and loved the gen 2 body style so that's what I got. Mine was certified, still has factory warranty and I purchased an extended (which I want use but, better safe than sorry! Right? LOL!). Couple of options I now wish I had but, really wouldn't use so that's why I didn't get them in the first place and pay the extra money. That money will be used for a few mods of my choice but, that want even be much since I don't off road except to the gun range. So I guess that means more ammo!!!!

CPO comes with 7yr/70k power train warranty if that makes you feel more warm and fuzzy. CPOs also qualify for new car finance rates at most lending institutions.

I went w/CPO 2nd gen because I saved a big wad of cash vs a new 3rd gen.
