Hi all, I have a 2005 Tacoma no extra lift, and am looking to switch out wheels. Currently the wheels are P235/70 R16, and I have some newer P265/ 70R17 tires/rims, any advice on whether the bigger newer wheels would fit?

    Many thanks,

    kyle

Correction: you're replacing tires. Not wheels.

265/70/17 will fit stock suspension just fine. That's a 31.6" tire.

However, you'll need to make sure (if the newer tires are already mounted on rims) that the rims will actually fit your truck. You need a 6 lug rim/wheel that is hub centric and has a 5.5 pattern.

Thank you for the response Kyitty, I thought because I am replacing both rim and tire it would be wheels.

If you have a 2wd tacoma, I dont think they will fit. 265/70s are pretty standard for stock trucks but considering that yours are 235/70s, It makes me think that you have the smaller 2wd tacoma, which could be a tight squeeze. Some pics would help

First question is do you have a 5 or 6 lug Tacoma, second question is what are the other set of wheels and tire off of?

It's the 2wd with 5 lug, tried to put the wheels (tires on rims) from an old ford expedition also 5 lug but the spacing of lugs on the expedition rims is larger. Apologies if this is a stupid question but is it worth it/possible to put the expedition tires on appropriate rims?

I think 265s might be too big. I'm not really familiar with 5 lugs though

235 is the largest tire safe to go on a 6" wide 5 lug wheel.

I've not seen 16" 5 lugs in an OE Tacoma wheel, only 14" and 15".

Pictures? Maybe what you have is already something different.
