I'm not an expert but I believe it should be a direct fit

Is there a functional advantage going with a 285 as opposed to something smaller? Or is it merely for aesthetics?

That is another great question that has been debated time and time again.

It all depends on what you intend to use the truck for and so on.

I personally chose 285/70/17 becuase i like the way they look on my truck.

Besides looks, i won't get off pavement too much. And if i do, its probably going to be on a beach and i like to have the extra width as opposed to a tall skinny tire.

    A thing or two...
Basically, it boils down to what's available. For 33s, your options for metric tires are 255/80 or 285/70 in a 17" rim, and there are more options in 285.

    Thanks!

    More questions!

    • I am leaning toward getting Fuel Vapor Wheels - am I supposed to get -12mm offset?
    • If I plan on putting BFG KO2's on, will I have have rubbing with the maxtrac lift if I go 285/70/17? Should I maybe consider 275's?
Thanks again for all your help!

Offset/backspace depends on wheel width. Maxtrac states a max backspace of 4.75". Google search for a offset backspace chart or calculator.

The mods have probably changed since last update.
Hey folks, after monitoring this thread for months and waiting on a certain *ahem* paycheck and bonus, I have decided I want to replace my 3inch toytec lift with Maxtrac's. I've always wanted to sit a little higher and have a more aggressive look, and with a 2wd, this certainly seems like the best option.

However, I do have a few questions and would appreciate ya'lls feedback as most here have way more experience with this than me. :help:

I'm thinking of going with the 4inch lift, however paying the amount of money to go an inch higher seems like a lot to me. However, this would certainly be more convenient since I wouldn't necessarily have to purchase larger tires than what I have now (33x12.50R20LT Toyo Tires).

However, for some reason I've always loved the look of a 6 inch lift with 35's. For those who have gone higher with larger tires, did you re-gear? That's another concern of mine and obviously another cost. I'm also probably going to have to fit in parking decks for my job/apartment, so has anyone had problems fitting in decks?? Just trying to stay reasonable here with my current stage of life.

If I go with only Maxtracs (4inch lift), it looks as if going with Dakar leafs is the best option for the rear. Does anyone have good experience with other options as well? And if I went with a 6inch lift combo, what would you suggest I put on the back to make it as level as possible?

Thanks in advance everyone:bowdown: I'm sure many on here have answered these questions countless times.

You can get just the spindles for 495 with free shipping from Headstrong Off Road.
If you want to go higher than 4" you can add the Maxtrac's to your Toytec lift for 7". I went a similar route, spindles & OME 885 coils for a total of 7" , All Pro expos & 2" blocks in the rear for 6".
I can still fit in my garage which has a 7' high door opening so as long as a parking garage is at least that I'm fine. I won't try anything less.
Don't forget a driveshaft spacer, carrier bearing drop & extended rear brake lines.
All Pro standard & expedition leaf springs are other options. Standards = 3" & expos = 4". Another option is custom leaf springs from a company like Alcan Spring.

I did it myself, if you're mechanically inclined it's pretty easy. I've actually done 7 & number 8 is in my garage waiting to go on my son's taco.

I posted this in the suspension forum earlier, but now i realize you guys may be more able and willing to help me out :D

"So I'm installing my Maxtrac spindles (4") this weekend, removing the 887s and swapping with factory TRD OR coils (not trying to have 7" of lift lol). My question is that since I have the small top-plate spacer on the drivers side right now (5100s) to account for t-lean, should i remove it when the stock coils go back on? I vaguely remember someone saying that the stock coils account for it, but I wasn't sure."

    You are correct

Toyota coils are factory rated for the lean

    @ensaladas this ^^^
I read the drivers side factory coils are slightly longer to make up for the lean. Aftermarket are the same size & that's why you need the spacer.

Doesn't matter what other colors are on the stock coils, the yellow dotted coil is always the longer drivers side coil.
