But if you are using Mother's Synthetic Wax every so often (maybe once or twice a year) on the paint and you get some on the matt black, be it wheel surrounds or the strip on the roof, or everywhere else that's not paint, how do you get it off without removing the sealant on the adjacent surfaces? I did do a search, and maybe I'm not looking for the right thing, but when you are done, and you have a bit of haze on the matt black parts, what's the best way to remove that? Pardon me if this has been asked a thousand times before.

 

I used a white eraser. It took the white stain from me getting paint sealer on the black plastic in spots. On the bed rail plastic you have to rub a little longer.

You have to use a product that will strip a sealer, so you will always be at risk for stripping the sealer around where you are trying to get the sealer out of the black plastic.

I use Simple Green and a soft brush to scrub it out. You can reapply the sealer to paint in the surrounding area to make sure it's still protected.

This year I tapped all my black plastic off before doing a two stage polish and a sealer. It was a lot of work, but I think worth it. But I was applying a lot of products. I'm not a very careful person so shit like this is usually just necessary haha.

 

Thanks for the replies. I thought I was being careful applying the sealant, but there are some areas where I obviously brushed against the matt black. Of course they are right next to the paint, making it all a bit of fun.

 

Absolutely correct for both the removal process and preventing it in the first place though masking. Masking is a lot of work, but I always do it before polishing anything. In my experience, polishes seem to get into matte black plastic even easier that wax or sealants.
