So, what do you think about getting a 2018 for 2-3k under msrp when they come out? Or are dealers pretty firm on msrp on new tacoma arrivals

I didn't think the used tacos were worth the minimal drop in price vs new. Nicer interiors on new, and better loan rates if you're financing. Plus warranty and toyota care.

Here (SF Bay Area) the dealers don't budge much on price.

Wait till the end of the month and you should get a good deal on a new 17.

This is probably the best thing to do. Dealers would probably go $500-1000 below invoice price to meet their quota at the end of the month.
When I was shopping for my truck they didn't discount the leftover 2016s that much. I was getting quoted $1000 bucks less than a 2017 model when I was looking in August. By the time I bought mine in early November the dealers in my area have already cleaned out their 2016 Tacoma inventory.
If you could care less about safety sense buying a 17 model at the end of the month will get you just a great deal anyway. When the 2018s arrive you will likely get quoted $1500 more than an outgoing 2017 model which will be offset by depreciation.
A 2017 model is worth a $1000 more than a 2016 model with the same mileage, trim, configuration, and options. Likewise a 2018 model is going to be worth a $1000 more than a 2017 model but you will end up paying $1000-1500 more for it which will just be a wash.

Look out incoming turd gen comments. Me I would go Brand-new with the 17. Biggest reason is you own it from day one and know All the maintenance history and how it is driven you don't know that about preowned. I have a 17 trd crew cab 4x4 i love it no issues whatsoever . And with the lower interest rates buying new financing is easier

That's why I would get a 3rd Gen... I've had a 2nd Gen and now own a 3rd... the 3rd Gen interior is MUCH nicer, the 2nd Gen looks 5-10 years outdated.

I couldn't justify spending $28k on a late model truck, when the newest model is only a couple thousand more.
