Ok I do almost no wheeling some off-road trails but nothing hardcore no need to risk rusting everything behind the cab for the little off highway stuff I do

Im curious about this rust thing.

whats at risk to rust so bad due to exhaust chop unless 1 sits idle for hours at a time?

Exhaust is very corrosive and could cause rust issues like you say at idle or very slow crawling not allowing it to blow out from under the truck is the concern

That is why most exhaust is stainless or aluminized

It is common sense, I thought everyone knew this. I wrote my reply, then looked it up in the online owners manual and there it was in yellow highlights. then edited my post to include the quote from the manual.

    You're pretty deep into this.

Common sense aside, I've never sniffed the slightest bit of exhaust from cutting my pipe behind the axle. Nobody will die. Everything will be ok. It's been 2.5 years for me. I think I'm safe. :notsure:

I'm not talking about your truck. All of my comments have been about the 4runner you brought up when you said:

" If you roll the back window down you'll be dead in about 5min. I'm surprised there haven't been lawsuits over that.".

I don't really care what you do to Your Truck.

The reason they require exhausts to exit beyond the rear or side of a vehicle is to help prevent carbon monoxide from entering the cab. For example, if you are sitting in your vehicle not moving for an extended period of time (stuck in snow, drive ins, or just chillin), carbon monoxide released under the vehicle will enter the cab much more easily. Carbon monoxide is odorless and replaces the oxygen in your blood starving your brain and organs. You wouldnt even realize you're breathing it in if you were.

    You asked for cons.

Do you need to add an extra hanger? Because where you cut it ends up eliminating the last hanger. Just don’t what to put any extra stress on the system. Btw stock exhaust system.

Did this about a month ago. Got tired of it hanging a mile lower than the HC rear

    Is this mod bad?
Archive Garage warns to not aim exhaust near their Hammer Hangers
which, if it's trimmed, might put exhaust gas closer to the hangers than it would in stock configuration
