The light comes on but it won't set. Any ideas?

I was thinking it was a sensor, the actual cruise devise.

The motors that control the cruise are actually very reliable, I had this situation happen to myself and it was a very simple and easy fix. Look at your clutch pedal and or brake pedal underneath the dash you should see tabs that stick off of the pedals at a 90 deg angle where it should have a rubber stopper that engages a switch letting the computer know what position the pedals are in. For cruise to set the clutch pedal and brake pedal have to be all the way up i.e. not being rested on or being used in order to engage cruise. If the rubber pad or stopper is missing the hole that is used to mount the pad allows the switch to protrude through that tab thus making the cruise control computer believe you are pushing the pedal down and preventing cruise.

    Hope that helps.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Pedal pads 1st cheap/easy check as mentioned above.

Does the horn work? Any airbag lights on? A failed/failing clock spring is common to all those.

thats why mine failed to work. this is one of the few things i let a dealer do, because i felt i would destroy it if i attempted to replace. i'm not good with small parts.

This might sound stupid but make sure your cruise cable is on and not off/ or super loose. I had the same problem and I pop my hood to look and the cruise cable came off of the cruise control part

Clutch pedal sags over time. Mine was both the clutch switch and the CC cable was disconnected/loose. I adjusted the switch and tightened the CC cable and it works.

Like Wilcam said, most likely the clutch. The spring gets worn out and unless the clutch is fully out, the cruise wont set. Try putting your foot under the clutch pedal and pulling up, in order to fully extend it. While holding it, try to set the cruise control. Thats how I solved my problem.

Wooo! Hurray for TW, @jp199 and for your wallet!

I priced the CC module when I had my issue and it was about $700 and that's with a pretty darn good discount!
