hello everyone, I am new to this site, but have been following Tacoma world for years as a guest and found it to be very useful. I am on my fourth Tacoma and will never drive anything else,
My wife and I were camping for the last four days, when we went to leave our 2009 TRD sport turned over, ran for 3 to 4 seconds and then died, this happened 4 times and then it wouldn't run at all, lots of crank, the key was left in the ignition all weekend, so my first thought was fuel pump, as I could not hear it when we put the key to the on position, so I hit the tank with a rubber mallet as my wife turned it over, this did not help, so I removed the key and waited a few minutes and re tried, it started and died after 4 seconds. So I check the cold air intake filter and it was clean, I then tried it again after 10 minutes this time I gave it a little throttle when trying it, I brought it up to 1500 rpm and let off the gas, it stayed runnng and seems to be fine now, I have turned it off and started it several times and it seems to work fine now, but it really bothers me that this happened, So if anyone has any insight on this I would really appreciate it

Is it really 4 seconds, or more like it fires then immediately shuts off?

My reason for asking is because my 09 Tundra would occasionally start then quit, restart then quit. I could leave it for 30 minutes, try it again and it would start like nothing was ever wrong.. I did notice the positive battery cable had some corrosion so I cleaned it, so far it hasn't happened again (about 6 months).

Well I'd say it was a 2 Mississippi count, I read that leaving g the key in the ignition for a long period of time can cause it, but I do not think that was it, I haven't checked my battery terminals, but it does have good crank, I suppose a corrosion build up on the positive terminal could cause it, I did give it throttle to prevent it from stalling out and it stayed running and ran fine afterwards, so perhaps the extra throttle helped with the amperage and prevented it from stalling out, I'll go and take a look at my battery terminal

I'm still not sure what happened, I'm going to assume the some kind of vapour lock due to the heat or a security issue due to leaving The key in the ignition for four days

This happens to mine every once in a while. About once a year. I don't know what causes it, I just assumed it was the security key not getting a good signal or something. Never really looked into it Cause it happens so infrequently and I'm never able to duplicate it again once it gets going.

I'm not looking not it any more than I have, these trucks are so dependable and I have never been let down, it did rise a slight concern but I'm ok with it now, truck runs amazing and has not repeated the issue, now that the back country ban is in effect due to wild fires, I am not getting much use with the truck, I can't wait for the fires to calm down so we can do some wheeling
