I just picked up a set of used icon coilovers with 650lb springs and put them on my truck with the preload ring at max lift. Unfortunately it only lifted my truck about 1'' (trying to get to 2.5'' lift). I'm trying to decide if I should just purchase a new set of 650lb coils (ones that came with the coilovers have seen a lot of miles), or bump up to 700lb coils. My tacoma has a steel tube bumper, aftermarket steel skid plate, and dual battery setup. Because I have about 200 lbs of extra weight up front, I was leaning toward the 700 lb coils, but just wanted to see if anyone has experience with the 700 lb coils before I drop some coin on them.

    Any advice is much appreciated!

Also, I've been running 5100's with OME 883 coils which have a 590 lb spring rate, and was getting desired lift.

Got any pics? I'm not really familiar with Icon stuff but usually coilovers have threads that you use a wrench to adjust height, whereas with 5100s you have to disassemble them and move the snap ring up a notch to get more lift. So are you saying the Icons have rings or threads to adjust the preload?

I don't have pics at the moment unfortunately. The icons have threads to adjust the preload, but icon recommends that you don't preload the adjustment collar more than 2.3'' from the top cap of the coilover. I have mine set at the maximum adjustment that icon recommends.

What I'm confused about is that with my Bilstein 5100's and OME 883 coils (590lb spring rate) with the lift adjustment at 0'' gave me about 2.5'' of lift, but my icons with a higher spring rate of 650lbs and maxed out preload are only giving me about 1'' of lift.

Maybe you have it all the way down by accident?

200 lbs of weight up front would definitely justify 700 lb springs. the 700's are longer springs as well (14" instead of 13" for the 650) 2.3" of preload should get you to your desired lift.

How do you like the ride vs your last setup, that's important too...

Thats a sick truck man. My guess is that those aren't the original icon coils. Thats all i can think of. Unless they're the 0-2" lift ones that dont require the UCA. Does the coil have any writing on it?

I have that same Icon / Camburg set up with Ext. Travel Icons. They're at Icon's amount of suggested preload and I have 3" of lift. I only have a TG low pro rock defense front tube bumper. Not heavy at all. My truck is the double cab with the V6. I also had them re valved at DSM with a the low speed flutter stack so it wasn't such a rough ride. Since they have digressive valving. Now my valving is in the middle of digressive & progressive. Rides so much better.

    158504 is the 13" 650 lb spring. 158508 is the 14" 700 lb.

@jp199 the coils are original and said 650lb on them. I had them powder coated because they were chipping pretty bad so they no longer say that.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'll probably bump up to the 700lb coils and have the shocks re-valved to be a little more forgiving at slower speeds.
