It's all opinion man. Different strokes for different folks.

But you forgot the Pro of not having oil on your hands, minimizing dropping the drain plug into your drain pan, don't have to worry about cross threading the drain plug (you or a pimply face kid).

Obviously the cons outweigh the pros for you. It seems to be the the other way around for others.

How the hell do you cross thread a drain plug? You can run it in all the way by hand. Then tighten it down with a wrench.

If f you want something done, do it yourself. I've been in the automotive industry for a long time and I have never witnessed a drain plug being put in with an impact gun.

I have also never heard of someone sneaking under a truck and flipping the valve on someone. And I'm still trying to figure out why it's "overly complicated" when it's just a valve.

I agree, do it yourself. If someone likes doing their own changes with the valve, you shouldn't be losing sleep over it.

Put an underdash mounted cable on the Fumoto. Then you just find a long downhill gravel road. Shut the motor off, pull the cable and coast down the road. When you get to the bottom, push in the cable, unscrew the oil filter and chuck it off into the bushes. Screw on your new filter and pour in the oil.

No messy recycling. No oil on your hands and the gravel road gets oiled in the process.

    JUST KIDDING

I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm just saying screwing that bolt in is very easy, just like tightening a filter. You can very easily overtighten a filter. But if you know you aren't supposed to do it, then it's pretty easy not too.

You are acting like you need a PhD in Applied Physics to change your damn oil. It's not that hard, especially in these trucks. We are spoiled with the filter and oil pan location.

I think it is far more likely that the pimply faced kid at the auto shop is going to fuck up my threads and over tighten my bolts/filter than me.

I couldn't get my filter off and had to use an impact drill to get my bolt off my oil pan when I first bought my truck. The dealer had done all the maintenance on it just prior to me buying it used. Two big time do NOT do's with oil changes and they did them. And they are Certified Idiots... I mean certified Toyota Technicians.

It's not that hard to do a lot of your own maintenance. We shouldn't be trying to convince people that changing your oil is too complicated to do yourself. Paying other people to do all your maintenance work is very expensive. We should be encouraging people to do things on their own and not to reply on someone else to do simple things. Especially the younger kids.

How am I saying doing oil changes takes a PhD? Where the hell did you get that? Stop twisting my words to support your point of view.

You're sounding like mistakes don't happen when people work on their trucks, even the most experienced mechanic who routinely does something can have a lapse in judgement, Why don't you read some of the bunch of threads of people ACCIDENTLY breaking bolts, ACCIDENTLY unscrewing wrong bolts, or ACCIDENTLY breaking a part they are working on.
