Built a .22 short rifle really quiet, Green mountain barrel, drilled out the base of a regular bolt, filled it in with epoxy, lighter spring, JB engine weld on a stock magazine to add to the feed lip. Have to manual cycle CB caps but real shorts work great. Volquarten kits are too much when you can DIY.

Have 3 80% receivers to finish up but there are few to none 'high school adult metal shop classes' at night anymore and the ones that did all say 'no gun projects' farking kalifornia

Want to buy another blank mag receiver or two for another .17 build, I love my 17Mach2 but ammo is getting scarce for it.

Man, back in the day I bought 3 Butler Creek 25 round clips that always jam if I load them past 20-21. Turns out Ruger makes some now & my bros were all talking them up when we took the Boy Scouts target shooting last weekend. Old news for y'all but it's been awhile since I got the 10/22 out.

Between that and finding this thread, it looks like it's time to start putting some $$ into the old plinker again :bananadance:

I'm interested in this .22 short build. Could you possibly share some pics?

They might still be on rimfirecentral if not I have them on a cd with all my 10-22 stuff. Basically I got someone to weigh their VQ bolt, used a cutout handle that someone there makes, the GM barrel, JB'd the mag based on someone else's build, they used a piece of wood... Absolute worse part was getting the spring to work correctly, I must have spent 6 hours at the range disassemble, cut/stretch, assemble, shoot, swear, gosub 1
oh yeah need to really polish the hammer and round the bolt end, that mod is also there.

Was it worth it? not sure, went the way of the SSS fast twist setup I made - $150 to shoot up a brick of ammo I bought by mistake. Can't find shorts anywhere and with CA stopping internet sales, I'll probably wait to put it back together once we move closer to Nevada...

The parts are in the gun safe as I repurposed the receiver for the M1 carbine build I used for an appleseed shoot a couple years ago. I'll look.

My free 10-22 - bought off a tweaker at a tow yard, he found it in a car going out to be junked, stock and barrel were cut down. He asked me what it was worth and I told him 10 years in federal prison... told him it would cost about $100 for parts, got it for $20. So a driver stops me while I am taking this thing apart so I could dump the illegal crap in a car. His son dropped his 10-22, barrel first onto a rock, could I replace the barrel - ok $20 plus cost of barrel. Took his old barrel on a lathe and cut and recrowned it, threaded for an old ar flash suppressor - free gun. Did have to use one of my spare bolts as I don't know how that original gun could eject. So I dumped my magazine bag and the mod ones aren't in there so I will need to look. We are packing up unused items for our move and they might be in one of the gun parts boxes

50 yard sight in with the 'bad' barrel - it loves CCI ammo, others not so much

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I have the 10/22 Takedown Lite (pictured earlier) and the Ruger Silent SR Suppressor. I didn't want to go with the ISB, due to the fact that I also have a Ruger SR-22 w/ threaded barrel and the Silent SR is more versatile.

Well I finally got around to taking my 22 out. It's just a basic Ruger 1022 with a BSA sweet 22 scope on it. After 20 rounds the recticle inside the scope went crooked, even though the scope was still level.

Hopefully I can return the scope and just purchase one of those vortex rimfire riflescopes, which is what I should've done from the beginning. I am very displeased with this BSA sweet 22 scope.

Yeah I almost posted when you said you had went that way. In my experience BSA is total shit. I bought a used 10/22 years ago that had that same scope (if you can even call it that) it wouldn't hold POI for nothing. I literally threw it in the trash. I believe in buying good glass, a good rule of thumb, spend for glass about what the rifle costs.
