By the looks of the photos, it's 5 lug only.

Edit - there is one that will fit a 6 lug 139.7 mm pitch circle diameter.

Interesting idea- certainly a lot of power behind it. There used to be an ad on popular mechanics a long time ago selling a big log splitting screw like that - one would bolt it to their drive wheel and push a log into it! Kinda scary though! How about using a wide piece of webbing and letting it wrap around the tire?

I'd be worried about torquing something if I were on good incline or mired in.

Hi everyone, I'm new. Just got a 2012 Tacoma and managed to get stuck yesterday. This caught my eye while I was sitting waiting for friends.

Anyone tried it? Seen it in action? Would a comparable winch/mount be doable for the same price range and be more versatile.

Like I said, I'm new (but did seem to find the right thread)

    Thanks

You'd need equal loading on both sides of the vehicle. You couldn't use just one wheel-winch, you'd have to use two, both connected to the same axle. It'd probably be best to use the rear wheels as well, so you don't have to worry about putting extra strain on the front wheels' U-joints.

EDIT: after some searching, I found this video of the winch in action:

That idea is almost as old as the automobile. I have a home made one somewhere in the garage.

They work but you really need two folks minimum.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
Seen it done. The danger is the strap slipping off and wrapping around the drive shaft and suspension.

One of those would be good for the folks that only have one winch mounted permanently in front if they ever need to winch backwards, such as when stuck against a rock while going down a steep slippery incline. Saw three trucks make the same mistake on a trail and they just couldn’t get the traction they needed to back up without help from behind. If going solo, it would have been hard for them to recover without a winch in back, and there were no trees nearby to use as anchors for doing the reverse winching maneuver.

I recently contacted the company that makes these with some questions, and they offered to let me test one.

Is there interest here in seeing me screw around with one?

Absolutely, I'd be curious to see some real life experience and how it compares to something sketchy I could fabricobble at home.

Also regarding the wheel mounted log splitter/ limb remover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj8A6gUN-iw

That's actually super cool. Worked alittle differently than I expected it to when he fired it up. I expected the pieces to get wedged between the guard and side of the cone to split, not with the end of the cone.

I'd actually love to have one, but I don't know if I'd trust myself to not get lazy and accidentally do something stupid. I also wish I had that guy's shop/ fab skills.
