Keeps getting worse

    I have purchased a used 1996 2.7 Tacoma. When I purchased it there was a miss as number 4 injector was not working. I replaced all the injectors, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, have cleaned the throtle body and IACV, replaced fuel pump and replaced a few vacuum lines. At this point the truck is missing worse and everything I do seems to make it worse....now it's throwing codes for random misfires in all cylinders and sounds like an air leak in the intake gasket. Any ideas or questions that would make ideas work? Thanks in advance.

    Could mean several things. Rings, valve, valve seals, head gasket. Or a combo.

    You need to do a compression leakdown test as well, to help isolate the cause of any issues you may find.

    Continuing from my last thread that I was unable to find. Finally got the cylinders tested. 1,2 over 60 3 around 30 and 4 less than 10. Found a 2001 that had been rolled with a newer motor for sale. Grabbed it up. Same engine (2.7 3rzfe) but the 1996 is distributor and the 2001 is coil packs. My question is do I need to replace every wire in the 1996 with the wiring from the 2001 to get the computer to work? I'm 3 days into trying to get every wire disconnected without breaking anything. I'm out of cash so buying expensive adapters isn't going to happen.Hoping I can find a way to make things Easier.

    The exhaust valve in cyl 3 and intake valve in cyl 4 are toast.

    You have bad compression.

    What have you done to show you need a new motor? IE how do you know it's not just a blown headgasket, warped head and leaking valves?

    Did you do a wet and dry compression test, as well as a leakdown test?

    The valves were stuck open and damage pistons and cylinder walls. Used a camera to look. The valve job and having the cylinders turned cost more than the donor truck. The 2001 cost me $1k and has less than 2k miles on the engine. Was rolled about a week after new engine and used in a mill yard to move the boss from one area to another until they lost the keys. I have the computer. But it doesn't have the same plugs. I've looked for an adapter but no luck. I've emailed precision performance asking if they have anything. Waiting to hear back.

    Keep the damaged engine on the side for a rebuild later.

    I believe you might only need to swap the engine harness but compare the end plugs 1st before you start strippin the entire truck
