    Excellent writeup OP.

Agreed. Search around for the best price. Surprisingly all dealers do not charge the same.

Thanks so much for the guide. I found some courage and changed the belt on my 2007 V6 4x4 Tacoma yesterday. I found that getting to the tensioner was too difficult from the top so I dropped the skid plate and did it from below...much easier. Also, while it may be quick for someone who knows what they are doing, I wrestled with getting the stiff new belt on and the project took over an hour from start to finish.

Thanks so much for the write up. I was scared to attempt the serpentine belt replacement until I read your write up and excellent pictures. Took maybe 20 minutes with a helper! Saved my son's GF 160 dollars. Seems like an excessive cost for such a simple job, but that was at the Dealership. I am sure a regular shop would not be that high, or I hope so. Thanks again, love this site!

A question about the tensioner bolt...on this write up the OP circles a cast Hex nut as the method
of decreasing the tension, but on that video the guy did it looks like he is putting his socket
on the nut in the tensioner pulley itself...is that just a bad angle in his video?...
or i am confused....or do both nuts accomplish the same thing?

My Haynes manual says used the cast Hex nut on the arm of the tensioner to remove the tension?

I know that the OP is long gone, but could somebody please clarify??

    Thanks.

Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
It's on the nut. you turn the wrench like you were going to turn the nut, and the tension arm moves.

Changed my belt today by myself because my belt was squealing so bad and it had been going on for weeks, now its silent finally and it was such an easy job, i did not need any diagram and took me about 30 minutes in all to do. Instead of a regular wrench i used a very long one and it was way easier this way to puch the tensioner all the way with practically no force needed.

Still getting familiar with my new-to-me 2008 base Tacoma. Soaking up all the good info and running out to my truck to look at things as I find info here. Have to take a close look at my belt. The truck only has 76,000 miles but couldn't hurt. Thanks!

Did mine today. OP provided a great guide, I could not use the ratchet in the position he did. Mines a 2015. A breaker bar positioned straight up worked great and made it super easy. Glad to now have a spare on hand.

Under my hood, there is a diagram of the belt routing if you forget to have it on hand while the belt is off.

I bought an aftermarket Bando for under $20, but next time I might just bite the bullet and get an OEM Bando. I saw a black Friday deal for $67, so I may get it then.
