Rear seat Pet barrier help!

So I have DCSB & am looking for a way to separate the back seat. I have a car seat behind the passenger that will stay in there but want to be able to easily bring my dog places without fear of him getting excited & jumping on the car seat.

I've been searching for solutions but all I'm finding are gates that separate the front & rear entirely. Does anyone know of a good solution or do I need to fabricate something up? Something like this Travall Divider is what I have in mind but for the portion of the back seat behind the driver.

I just ordered some dog seat belts for my dog who loves to jump into every seat including mine while im driving. Its basically a leash extension that fits into any car seatbelt socket and you can adjust the length so they can still move around and look out the windows but it stops them from wandering too far. Im not to sure how far it will stop them from moving back and forth in the back but I can let you know when I try it out tonight.

 

Do you use a harness for your dog then or just a collar?

 

I use a harness because he is a weird dog whose head is smaller than his neck so he can easily get out of a collar lol

why not use the truck bed? I specifically went from an SUV to a truck so that I can take my dogs everywhere and not have to deal with hair in the cabin. it's awesome!

 

Because the bed is for gear and supplies.

 

Because you'll piss off PETA if they see your buddy in the bed of the truck.

Then again you'll piss them off anyways just for simply existing and breathing.

 

I have a shell with ample air flow. perfectly legal, and humane. I'm very mindful of temperatures.

 

I'm not comfortable using the truck bed knowing my dog.

I'm thinking about getting this pet barrier & cutting a 1/3 of it off on one side & welding it at a 90 degree angle towards the rear window.

This was more directed towards open bed owners much like myself.

this and attach a carabineer to each corner then attach the top corners to the rear and passenger headrests then attach the bottoms to the seat frames of the front and rear seats like in this pretty picture I just drew

 

I have a pet hammock like this one that came with the seat buckle harness attachment. It works well, but I also have a kennel in the bed. My lab loves going swimming and when he is really muddy he rides there. He is well protected in the kennel.

I second this idea... but primarily for the expertly drafted visual.

 

We installed one of these for the same reason (but then switched trucks and decided to go a different route). Great quality product. Net is available for sale if you have a 3rd Gen Tacoma.

I find the best pet barrier to be the back window . Why anyone would ever even consider putting a dirty smelly shedding slobbery dog inside the passenger area of any vehicle is beyond me .

 

Same here. But a harness is probably best, anyway. If there should be an accident you don't want them to be hanged by the neck. We have terriers so it's also good to have them restrained when you open the door to make sure they don't come flying out to chase a squirrel or something.

Those tethers are a great idea and I always use them. It keeps the dogs and everyone in the car safer.
