Hey guys - I'm upgrading my factory suspension and have decided on the following:

Fox 2.5 factory series coilover w/ reservoir / dsc.
    Icon delta joint UCA

    Running 275/70/18 bfg ko2's

Need some advice on which way to go with the rear leaf - icon aal? Complete spring pack? Etc

I appreciate any help you guys can throw my way!

The icon AAL is the same as Wheelers, headstrong etc. All made by deaver. It will give you 1.5" of lift in rear if you follow instructions and remove the Overload leaf or 2" if you leave factory Overload leaf in.

Ah good to know. I just wanted to be sure I'm not cheaping out by just going with AAL vs a complete new pack (meaning is there any major pro or con to AAL vs complete pack)
Any noticeable difference in ride if i leave in the overload?

Depends what you're hauling towing how much weight you strap onto the vehicle (armor skids, roof top tent) if you're rolling close to stock and not a LOT of extra added weight the AAL is great for me.

depends on if youre putting an AAL on a leaf pack that hasn't seen much milage. for instance. if you have 50k on your stock leafs. don't bother, just replace the entire pack. i put an aal on the OE suspension at about 85K. Was a waste of time. I just made another mistake and put standard OME Dakars in, when with the weight I plan on adding with a rack and other stuff in the bed, I should have went with the HD spring. The blokes at ARB tell me I can just add the extra leaf to the pack I purchased, and that will turn make it the HD. A lot of stuff to know.

For instance, I have the same coilovers as you. They're not bad. However, the 600# coilspring isn't even close to handling the weight of a bumper/winch/dual battery.

I have the fox 2.5 coilovers as well but without the reservoir. For the rear I went with Dakar 3" expo leafs and love how the back end looks. I'm running bilstein 5100's in the rear for now but looking to replace with fox rears. I had an AAL on my stock leafs but the stock leafs were worn. So even with the AAL the leafs were flat with no load in the back. I think if your gonna spend the money then put it towards a full leaf pack that will give you that 2.75-3" of lift.

I'm kind of leaning towards new leaf pack, as I'm already spending a pile of money on the rest of it.

My truck is brand new - less that 3000kms / 2000 miles on it. Give that my factory leafs are new, would you think that AAL is a good option?

If you're paying someone to do the labor then you might as well do it right the first time get a new leaf pack. Just be aware a new leaf pack can be quite a bit heavier duty and stiff when compared to the stock rear end... so if you add a bunch of heavy bumpers, skids and armor on the truck it's going to help you smooth that full new leaf replacement.

If you're doing the labor yourself and not adding a lot of weight, I'd probably just do the AAL for now, then when those leafs wear out (IF you ever wear them out) go ahead and upgrade to a full new pack.

I'd call Wheelers offroad to talk to them about the full leaf pack options they have, based on your planned usage of the truck and what you desire as far as ride characteristics. They should be able to help you out.

how do you find the on-road ride to be? does the adjustable compresion make a big difference? i read good things, but interested to hear the opinion of someone who has run them for awhile.

Honestly I think you need to determine how you plan to use the truck, what you want the lift for functionality-wise....then go from there. No sense in dropping 5 grand on suspension build if you're going to use it to grab groceries and weed or bug spray from the local Home Depot.

Agreed. Its a daily driver that i plan on doing some overlanding in, probably a couple longer trips a year and then weekend bashing.

i like your thoughts on the AAL - throw it in until i wear it out or determine that i need heavier load capability.

    Thanks for the feedback

It's not a bad option for to start with. The cons come into play when you start loading down the bed with plate bumpers, bed rack, roof top tent, and other off-road tools and equipment like previously mentioned. My leafs are stiff when the bed is empty, but when it's loaded down it's a smooth ride on and off road.

i haven't messed with the adjustment. i don't know enough about it to play with it. its not a bad ride. feels like the factory, if not better. the AAL on my shit OEM spring didn't feel like it made a difference.

I've got icon aal no overload leaf with matching icon 2.0 rear the rear is a little stiff not harsh on road off road is much smoother compared to stock. Still rides better than a 3/4 or one ton.
