If this car is going to be so unreliable or if you have been experiencing dozens of issues, it's way better to cut your loses immediately and go buy a canyon/Colorado or Frontier. Better yet go get a F150/Silverado.

Think about the huge amount of costs and headaches thay are coming in the future if these initial reports are correct.

I had 2007 Tacoma that went to 195k miles with no issues and all OEM parts. That was supposedly the worst generation. I think I will just fine with my 2017.

Yeah... If I hadn't put several thousand in mods on it before most of these issues surfaced, and been willing to take a sizable hit on top of that I would have taken it back within weeks of owning it. Its a 2017 AT built in Baja in Sept'16. even the rear bumper is misaligned and things like the corner panels and front bumper are crooked against each other. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but looking at it it looks like it's been wrecked and fixed as a 3rd rate body shop in those places.

In any case, I'm not a hater on the truck because it does look awesome and occasionally drives really well and is very capable off road. But I'm sorely disappointed in execution of the assembly, testing and development of the software, and the disregard I've seen from Toyota in validating and addressing my concerns.

Damn thing still logs misfires on OBD every trip but the dealer says "normal" - ha!

Edit: And I have to take responsibility on the test drive. I only did a couple of short in-city test drives. I felt (from prior experience and reputation) that one of the few things I could count on was Toyota (and Tacoma's) legendary quality. Lesson learned.

This is a mystery to me. If I had a truck with multiple problems that were not getting solved to my satisfaction I would simply sell it or trade it on something else. Is this logic something that escapes these guys? It's not like they will lose thousands of dollars because of the Tacomas super high residual value. Get rid of it! Get something that they can drive that has no problems. I know I would in a hot minute. Write it off as a bad experience and be wary of Toyota in the future. My truck is trouble free and I'm enjoying rowing the gears.

Exactly. If you just bought a brand new truck, you're likely in a financial position to
trade it in, losing a few grand isn't going to put you in ruin. From the few major
whiners here, they just like to bitch & moan.

It may be that long term ownership is a thing of the past. There is so much that can go wrong with todays vehicles, we should not keep them much past the waranty. All of today's cars are going to have recalls and problems, too much tech and safety shit. I think I'll keep my 75 TR6 untill I die.

Oh we're going to beat that tired and worn out drum again... that Honda, GM, Ford, RAM, hell anyone but TOYOTA is just a huge shitpile and not worthy of purchase. Funny...wonder why Ford Sells so many F-150s after all those decades of turning out totally unreliable piece of shit trucks that just fall apart as soon as you drive them off the lot. Weird, dude!

I think any new vehicle is going to be costly to get rid of, even the Tacoma, in that other thread the guy traded his after only 3 payments and it cost him thousands. I have no idea about the situation some guys are in here but maybe they bought as much truck as they could afford and need to wait a few years to lessen the blow, but who knows.

It's not worth it to me to lose thousands on a trade right now and I certainly don't want to deal with private selling a financed vehicle -- been there done that with vehicles over 20K and it's a different ballgame from selling something that people can easily pay cash for (5 or 6 grand) with title in hand.

Not in a situation right now where it would make sense to show up at home with a brand new truck in the driveway. Although my wife is also irritated with how much time I've had to spend at the dealership to get shit fixed. She's 9 months pregnant and it's simply not a priority right now.

Go buy another truck? Why go though all the BS with Toyota ? Take the most economically sound approach and buy something else. Why deal with anything further?

You could sue Toyota , but most likely your court and laywer costs will eat away most of your payout to where it wouldn't have been worth it.

Put away the mouse and keyboard and buy something else.

Listen to the wise words of marsellus Wallace in pulp fiction. "Fuck pride".

Think about all the time you've spent online complaining and all the time you have spent at the dealership. It's not worth it. Take the hit now while it isn't as bad.

If the reliability reports are right, these cars are going to plument in value in a short time period. Might as well get what you can now. You will regret it.

The only way to minimize the depreciation on a brand new vehicle is to keep it a minimum of 3 years and sell it privately on Craigslist, autotrader, car gurus, etc. Yes it's going to take longer to get rid of the truck but it sure beats the beating you are going to take trading your vehicle at the dealership for $4-5k below it's true market value.

Getting low balled on a trade is less of a concern if you are buying a vehicle with strong discounts like a domestic brand truck but it still going to be a $3-4K loss regardless of how good of a deal you are getting on the next vehicle.

He fails to understand that if he is set on trading no matter what, getting rid of the truck as soon as possible makes the most financial sense. If it's too much trouble, too busy, wife pregnant, yeah we get it. But from purely a financial standpoint it makes no sense to keep it AND mod it. And we all know how much time he has....
