If you were in TX maybe!!! I have been thinking of getting some kind of cap soon, getting tired of the old roll up cover.

Too much! Came in around $2700 but that includes Yakima roof rack and cross bars, upgraded roof (500+ lbs max), electronic locking, led light, drop down rear window, tax, and install.

I could have made it cheaper but figured it would be better to get all the items at once.

That's nearly exactly how I'm looking at ordering as well. Should I go this way.

I hated spending the money but definitely do not regret buying it. My bed space is way more usable now that I have a shell, especially when camping. Plus I have a RTT, it's a perfect set up.

This is exactly my plan. I drive about 100miles round trip a day on my commute, average 6 days a week so I don't want anything too heavy, loud or anything with poor aerodynamics.

Kinda want to stay fast and light as possible. But I do want a canopy to keep work gear dry when the rains start.

Planning a second set of wheels for camping/off-road and winter use, keeping stock Pro rims for my commute. RTT only on for trips.

Need the canopy to be durable, basically leak proof. I'd like the edge that comes down just slightly over the bed rails for weather proofing.

And ideally integrate a power lock into my factory fob, I'll do the power tailgate at the same time.

Can carry 500lbs, built in roof rack.

Ideally with a carpet liner. Insulation perhaps?

I want 12V power, will put a second battery kit in at some point which can run anytime power accessories and lighting.

I also want a sliding window for access between the cab, but want it to fold down for cleaning.

Would love something like the Leer locker but not necessary. Maybe just a drawer system. Unsure on this. I'd prefer the weight as low as possible.

Finally the windows, i'd like something that I can open that won't let rain in. I like frameless but it's not necessary. Probably Windoors if possible.

And once more for posterity, waterproof. We get like 280 days of rain a year, I don't want puddles in my bed.

    Which models works for me?

FYI to anyone who will be placing an order in August; Snugtop is offering a promotion for a free Sportsman's Package upgrade on any new shell - this package reinforces the roof to a 500 pound capacity (perfect for a rooftop tent etc.).

Just purchased this Snugtop Hi Liner for my 2017 Tacoma Sport LB. I included the options of the vented winddoor, LED lighting, Yackima tracks and the Pro Lock Handle that locks the rear glass with my OEM keyless remote. SnugTop Hi Liner is 4-5" taller than the standard cab height. I wanted the 20% extra space for camping/sleeping, hauling branches, leaves and lawnmowers. I visited ARE, LEER, SnugTop dealers for a quote, basically the quotes were all similar. $2,600-2,800. After doing some research I found that I was not comparing apples to apples. ARE is on the less expensive side and I was not impressed with the quality and the metal frame rear glass. LEER and SnugTop I find to be comparable but like the fit and finish of the SnugTop. The hi cab styles are different, so it would be more of personal preference if you are shopping for LEER vs SnugTop. There is a thread on this site of horror stories of poor workmanship, leaking seals and windows. My suggestion is make sure you purchase your topper from a reputable outfit. I was lucky and found a father/son SnugTop dealer in Loveland CO (S-Cargo Truck CAPs). They take pride in their work and make sure the topper is fitted properly and did leak tests on site. One other nice service they provide is that they will take off, store and reinstall your topper for $1 a day storage fee (min$30). This is perfect for mid summer when I'm landscaping and hauling grills for a couple outings. I'm very pleased with my SnugTop and would highly recommend the vented windoor option. I ended up paying $2,681 including tax...it's a lot of money but I plan on owning this vehicle for 20 years.20170812_150242.jpg 20170812_152829.jpg 20170812_163712.jpg 20170812_181137.jpg

Great looking shell and I am glad to hear you had a positive dealer experience.

I agree with you regarding the dealer - they make all of the difference. I had a few issues with my Rebel when it was delivered six months ago and the dealer soured it for me:

    1) The Yakima track is attached to the shell with ten stainless steel button head screws. These pass through the fiberglass and are secured on the inside of the shell with a corresponding plastic encased nut. One of the bolts was installed through the fiberglass roof, but the hole was not cut in the carpet to expose the threads - it looked like a bump in the carpet. How the "Quality Control" personnel at Snugtop missed this is beyond me.

    2) The solenoid that locks/unlocks the rear hatch did not completely slide the actuator in the rear hatch far enough to unlock the latch once locked. I didn't realize the solenoid was defective until I wired the shell. I simply had the dealer bolt the Rebel to my bed (partial install). I prefer to wire things myself as I solder all connections and use Delphi Wetherpack connectors for all quick disconnects. I also prefer to route wiring harnesses myself. I used to work for my uncle growing up, who was a mech engineer that owned his own small scale manufacturing business; he taught me a lot.

    3) My passenger side windoor leaked like a sieve when it rained or when I went through the car wash.

    ---

I still think my Rebel "finished" assembly the day before Snugtop closed for the Christmas / New Years holidays, but I digress.

My dealer was very hands off after the install. He stated that Snugtop wouldn't reimburse him for the labor to fix the issues and gave me the run around... This shop is the only dealer in the area and I didn't want this guy around my truck. Also, Snugtop will not send you, as the owner, a replacement part - they only ship parts to a dealer within their network. Their customer service is not that great. I talked to the same guy at Snugtop a few times and he seemed really aloof.

I'm not the type of person who likes waiting around and I didn't have a lot of confidence with my local dealer. I called another Snugtop dealer out-of-state and they mailed me the Yakima nut and replacement solenoid for free; both were an easy install. I removed the windoor - the cut out in the fiberglass was slightly too big in the upper right corner, creating a gap. Due to this, there was a about a 1/8-1/16" gap where water was entering the topper and flowing down the inner lip along the bed rail. I was able to find similar forum posts about this issue. I reinstalled the windoor and sealed the gap with heavy duty, outdoor silicone, which fixed the leak completely.

    ---

With that being said, I love my Rebel. It is an excellent product, but Snugtop's workmanship could have been better. The dealer was a let down as well, but I don't mind fixing things myself. I like knowing that the work was done right anyway.

2017 Snugtop Supersport on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad Short bed Double Cab. Paid around $3500 for everything including Bed Rug install / Sportsman's package / Canopy install. North of Seattle. Took about 6 - 8 weeks to come in. The new 2017 Tacoma key doesn't fit the codeable lock that I ordered, and the installer didn't know this (and of course never checked with Snugtop or Toyota) so caveat emptor. Ended up with a new key for the canopy lock on my keychain.

Thanks for the video. Mind sharing where you got it installed? How did they install the wiring?

In hindsight would you do anything different?

I’m planning on doing a similar build but considering racks for a RTT on my Taco and would love to learn from your experience. I’m also in the PNW and have about a 100 mile round trip commute so I’m trying to stay efficient and practical as possible.

I would like a electronically activated lock that ties into the tailgate like a pop n’ lock which would be ideal. Not doing the tailgate till I get a canopy however.

I love my Snugtop. I’ve had it over a year now and I haven’t had any problems. Professionally installed in Portland, OR so I didn’t have to mess with wiring and water resistance issues. I travel the country for work and have been in extreme heat to freezing cold. Rain and snow, no hail yet, and I haven’t had any problems.

So, I'm already frustrated with Snugtop's customer service and I haven't even received the cap yet. I should have expected a poor experience after the other stories in this thread, but yikes.

I ordered a Snugtop Sport HiLiner last week, and am in the process of planning a camper build for the back of the truck. As part of this planning process I've been searching high and low for dimensions of the interior to get a sense of how much headroom above the sleeping platform I should leave myself. I struck out trying to find this information online, so I called Snugtop directly for the figures. I thought the dimensions of an established product would be a pretty simple ask. Instead of a helpful response, or even a courteous response, I got an unhelpful response in a smug, dismissive tone. I was pretty incredulous that such a simple request would be so difficult, but I suppose in a niche market the pressure just doesn't exist to force companies to adhere to good customer service practices.

Having read this thread, I knew the tradeoff for Snugtop was a (usually) quality product with substandard service. I bought it anyway, but lets hope I don't need anything from the manufacturer afterward. Leaving a transcript of my conversation here so that future potential purchasers can factor service into purchasing decisions, if desired. My call recorder only records my side of the conversation, so paraphrasing their responses from memory but it will be pretty darn close.

    ----------------------
First call: Rings for about a minute, no answer.

    Second call:

    SNUGTOP: Snugtop.

ME: Hey, how ya doin? I'm trying to find out the interior dimensions of one of your shells and I couldn't find that online anywhere, is that something you could help me with?

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) No, we don't offer that information. Why do you want to know?

ME: Well I'm trying to figure out once I get it installed how much headroom I'm going to have above the bed rail. You can't tell me how tall one of your products is?

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) No, we only offer the length. All of our products are cab high though, so if you just look at the height of your cab that's how tall it will be.

ME: Well the... the HiLiner isn't cab high.

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) Right okay so add about four inches to that. If you want to know how tall it will be you'll have to measure from the bed to the cab and add about four inches.

ME: Okay... I'm sorry, I'm just confused as to why you don't have accurate dimensions of your products available?

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) Because people use it for evil and not for good. Maybe you can read between the lines there.

ME: N.. no, that doesn't make any sense.

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) Well, a few people ruin it for everyone.

    ME: I'm... flabbergasted. What evil...?

SNUGTOP: (Paraphrase) Well, we don't go out with a tapemeasure to all of our shells.

ME: I mean... they're all built to a form, right?

(This was obviously unproductive, and I ended the call shortly after.)

    -----------------------

I've been thinking about this after the call, and the only thing I can think of is that their manufacturing processes aren't consistent enough to ensure a consistent product and they've had a lot of complaints about fitment being off as a result. 1) That isn't a good reason not to communicate a standard, it is a good reason to improve product consistency and 2) It doesn't give me great hopes for a well-fitted, leak-free future.
