Meat thermometer for grilling/kitchen

Thermoworks products are really nice. I know they cost a bit but at least you don't lose the food. I have both the original Thermapen and the Thermoworks TW8060 for constant monitoring of meat while in the smoker.

 

any infrared thermometer suggestions?

 

I actually just grabbed the Tacklife IT-T02 Classic Infrared Thermometer off Amazon the other day. Was on sale for like $7 for I figured eh what the heck. Have to say I am pretty impressed with it so far. Works really well and it's small and light. Worst case if it turns out to be garbage I only spent $7 on it lol.

 

Mine is some cheapie from Harbor Freight. I brought it up to work at compared it against a high-dollar Flir unit and it was only ever different in the 1/10ths place for most stuff. I did take it out by the gas grill when I was cooking steaks one day for our facilities crew and it was off by about 2-5% depending on what surface I was reading. Good enough for my uses.

I used to use it on skillets/pans, but then started taking note of how a slice of room temperature butter reacts and go by that instead.

 

I ended up ordering one from ebay. around $20 hopefully it works as advertised.

 

I used mine last night while doing a batch of ice cream and tested it against my instant read and it worked like a charm.

 

i have the igrill2. the software leaves something to be desired, but if all you want is a temp, it works well enough

Cheaper version, just as fast and accurate. Just dont have the reach. I use it anytime i grill. Well cooked meat trumps trying to look tough
