I maybe nuts but when I place some weight in the back of the truck, I seem to have better drivability and it seems to be smoother...I am getting around 18mpg in town and when driving 65-72 on freeway for distances over 20 miles I get around 24-27....It funny because I have tonneau cover and thought I would get better mileage with that, maybe i do , bit did not drive a lot without it.....

Anyway, just seems funny I get better mileage and smoother ride with small load in back

I am also getting average of 15.5. I am going to track it next time I fill up on empty to be more percise.

Towed a 2,500 Jeep on a dolly with a full load of camping gear last month. Total weight had to be 3,000 to 3,500lbs. 70mph on the highway in 5th gear (manual) on flat was no problem. I could sometimes use 6th if it was really flat an little wind. RPMs in 5th at 70 are 2,800. Average over the 2,000+ miles like this was 14.5 mpg. I get 20-22 tank average mpg normal driving.

You should be able to tow an empty dual axle trailer at least as good as I was towing this. 70+ should be doable, even if you gotta run 3K rpms.

First things, I'm in a DCLB which I understand will get a little bit less MPG... Towed this camper for about a week in the Smoky Mountains. Weight is about 3200 lbs and I got about 11 to high 13s MPG. Was on mountain roads (blue ridge parkway) going 30-40 most of the time. The limited time I spent on the highway I kept it around 65. I had absolutely no problems pulling the trailer, even on some steep gravel service roads. The two or three times I did get above 70 I noticed a lot more vibration and certainly less control with the trailer. Also wasn't using trailer brakes. I will second that after 5K and 10K mileage does seem to increase. At my first 5K mile service I actually asked them to check things because I was getting 12-14 MPG and that was after noticing something was wrong, tracking it, and eventually driving like a granny. Luckily that has not continued and I routinely get 17-18 during my average commuting around Atlanta. Still don't see how people claim to get 24+. Even driving on a relatively flat interstate and keeping it at between 70-75 I only get 20-21.

    None yet!
Huh, I wonder if it's something to do with the ECT- try engaging it and see. Also are you gunning it a lot? It took me a while to get used to the automatics shift points and acceleration dynamics, but if you're punching it a lot your mileage will suffer. Also I don't want to seem rude and sound lecturing, however, when towing you should not go over 55 mph.
