CB specifics

Ya I appreciate it I'm not sure who but someone gave me the answer I was looking for, I'm definitely missing that plastic washer for the antenna that's where all my issues are steming from

 

Yeah, I read that as well. Not having that nylon washer will short the center conductor of the antenna to GND!!!

My guess is that when keying the MIC, the burst is outputting a very WIDE freq spectrum burst?! Just as if you were to scrape across batt terms with a file or even just a straight wire as it will output actual "RF noise"!!! But, at the same time, burn out your finals if you key your radio for too long. What's happening when you key your MIC is that whatever freq/ch you are on, the radio is essentially "vibrating" your antenna at that freq. When that freq is not efficiently transmitted it gets reflected back TO the radios output and eventually burns-up the RF amp circuit (i.e. the output finals) in the radio!!! That RF power wattage heat has to go somewhere if/when reflected back???!!!

But, with that said, I too think it is unrelated, just weird you experienced it in the first place!!!

 

Anyone know where to buy that plastic washer for the antenna?? Because I bought a new fire stick hoping it would come with it but of course it didn't. Or is it something I can make myself possibly? ??

 

It usually comes witb the antenna stud.

I'm using the Rago Fab rear cb mount (uses bolts for taillight to secure) and it seems like i'm having issues with the ground since my SWR is quite high. anyone else with that mount run into issues? wondering if I need to grind off the powder coating a) at the bottom of the mount that hooks up to the antenna and/or b) the portion that mates to the bed and is secured with tailight bolts

 

Definitely grind off the PC around the bolt holes and on the bottom of the mount. That's the issue I ran into.

 

for the bolt holes did you grind off both sides?

 

I can't remember to be honest. I don't think I did.

 

Hi all, I have a new Tacoma. I wired in a CB with a roof mounted magnetic antenna and it worked great. With my new job I will need to enter various city parking garages, so overall vehicle height is an issue. The shop told me the range would be poor with a through the window antenna, but I pretty much had no choice. Other mounting locations were not a real option as some of the city resident population, at the work locations, would think nothing of breaking off an antenna located in a more vulnerable location. The shortened range is fine for my use of the CB. I tested it out a few days ago and it worked fine. Today I had a tremendous amount of static which I eventually tracked back to the air conditioner circuit. Running a power supply directly to the battery did not alleviate the issue. What eliminates 90% of it is if I lay the mic cord on my leg. If I wrap my hand around the mic cord, and squeeze, the static is completely eliminated. Any suggestions on how to eliminate the static, without having to hold onto the mic, would be greatly appreciated. Pete

 

Hey guys, this is an awesome thread!

I have been on the fence for a while about putting a cb in the truck. I'm hoping to either be talked in to our out of it here. I don't offroad as much as I'd like to (maybe once a month) when I do there is a small group of us. I am looking for other reasons to justify adding a cb.

Growing up my dad was an avid cb enthusiast, in fact I still have several of his old CBs including a President Lincoln I and a couple cobras.

I am considering getting the President Mckinley due to it's features and size and because my dad said President CBs were some of the best. I'd like to install a cb in the center console storage box because it already has a 12v outlet in it and because the cb would be hidden away there. This is as far as I've gotten, lol.

So as I said, please help talk me in to or out of adding a cb.

You can buy a ferrite rod about four inches long and place it in the coils of the mic cord near the mic. Fairly cheap to and they take out static and back feed for those with talk back feture and lots of big power.

 

I plan on doing the same thing, but in my '17. I haven't quite saved up the coin to make it happen yet. There was another member in this thread that mounted a radio in his center console as well but doesn't have a ton of pics.

I'll probably try to make some sort of tutorial when I get around to mounting mine, but it could be another month or two. Do it to it, good luck, and POST PICS!

 

I use a Stryker 440hp it's a 10 meter ham that is converted to 11 meter to talk on CB Channels. Also using Wilson 2000 Tucker antenna mounted on drivers front fender for hight issues. The radio is 60 Watts stock out of the box and has mosfet finals in it. It has the best modulation of any radio out there. This radio is not made any more but any new Stryker is bad ass.

 

I'm using the Ranger 2970n4. I don't think it's getting out as far as I like. I juice it up but seems to stay local. Trying to get it out 50-90 miles? I'm using a sirio antenna.

 

That ranger should reach out. I think antenna every time I can't reach out. I know from northern California I can talk to Yuma Arizona from the right spot and right skip in atmosphere. And I'm only 60 Watts. Now you could throw in a Texas star modulator V or the 250. That would give you the ranges you want.

 

Just got my Palomar 250 rebuilt. Now I'm selling it. Looking for $175 I'll get some pics up when I get home tomorrow evening.

 

Anyone figure out a solution for clearing the C4 Fab tailgate antenna mount?

 

If anyone has a C4 mount hats having clearance issues, I’d take it off your hands and give it a try
