IMG_3836.jpg IMG_3834.jpg So my luck with my cars being hit or something happening to them is not great. Prior to this our 4runner was totaled when somebody reared in when it was parked on the street. I was washing our tacoma when i noticed the rear bumper on this one was popped off. The dealer is saying that it would be 10,000 to fix and replace the whole thing. It seems as if it can just be popped back into place. In addition if the dealer is asking for this insane amount then why not just spend $800 on a bumper and fit it in. Aside from the bumper being off the car drives perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with it. 10,000 seems like a stupid amount.

Does this seem as it can be popped back in? Or a quick fix? What should I do?

Also I have plastidipped rims and decals which they were blaming that I could have "pulled" the bumper while working on it. I laughed, since it's a coat on top and all visual.

I appreciate the advice and help!

Edit: Sorry I thought I uploaded photos. And also I came out to it and found that it was popped off. I think someone or something may have clipped it.

    *third shows the fine side*

    WHAT HAPPENED:

Alright guys so initially we got to the dealer at 10am and they gave us the price point of 10k. I however had to leave because of a school club event. But my dad ran me down on what happened. Their reasoning for the 10,000 estimate was that damage was also done to the frame of the car as well as the bumper, HOWEVER upon further inspection they said it was only the bumper (this was after 2 hours of talking to them my dad said) And so what happened is they said they would fix it for $3000 (LOL) and we can include our insurance deductible that would bring the cost down to $2000 to fix at their collision center (still a ridiculous amount). And so long story short after hours of deliberating and them finally coming up with a solid price my dad got home from the dealer at 6pm..... so it looks like we're going to have to go aftermarket

Pictures of what you're talking about would help.

I agree if the dealer is quoting you 10k for a fix, that seems excessive.

What exactly are they saying will cost 10k? A replacement bumper is no where near that amount...are they claiming something other than the bumper is damaged?

    1. Welcome to the forum
    2.:worthless:
    3. $10,000 for a bumper is insane!!!!!
    4. More info please! EDIT:
Now that I see your pictures that spacing is "normal" on Tacos, I bet the other side is closer?? There are a bunch of threads about how the bed and bumper alignment is out of wack from the factory. The bed alignment is easy as all you have to do is get a Torx bit, loosen six bolts, adjust the bed, then retighten. The bumper gap alignment is a little more involved as you have to remove the plastic plate and the license plate lights to get to the bolts to make that adjustment. For the dealer to tell you $10,00 is beyond stupid and you should run away as fast as you can before some of that stupidity leaks out!

I just went to the dealer today and posted this up when they were talking to me. I will be back with more details after talking to them tonight. And my apologies I thought I had pictures posted up with the post. The damage does not seem to excessive. To my understanding as of right now, they said to replace the rear bumper would be 10k which I was like wtf.

So they're saying it's nearly 1/3 the cost of the entire truck to replace the rear bumper...wtf indeed

exactly my thoughts, i've went under the car already and nothing else seems off aside from the bumper section only. I am confused beyond everything.

Is there any sign of what happened? Scuff or scratches, paint from other car on bumper? Some evidence of where the contact was?
