One of these air conditioning threads had a member who purchased tiny in-line screens that prevent metal from contaminating the complete system . If any of you know what the part numbers for these magical screens are , I would be a happy camper

Where did you buy the clutch assembly from? Did you just replace the clutch, or the entire clutch and pulley assembly? Any direction or links are really appreciated!

Problem with AC. The clutch fell apart. Just want to make sure this is correct pressures for the AC when not running. Has not worked in a few years and have moved to Florida, so I am hoping to get it working again.
Bought a clutch but getting the piece opposite the magnet, the thin disk, onto the shaft is proving difficult.

All you can really tell when the AC is off is that there is refrigerant in the system. Can't tell if it's full unless it's running. Also, what is the ambient temp?

Notice how the low side gauge needle crosses over the red temp mark, right at 80F? That means you have enough refrigerant to have at least some saturated refrigerant. It doesn't mean that the system is full. It does tell that you don't have a big leak, otherwise there would be no pressure. Get your clutch together and see what the gauges say, after running for a few minutes with the fan on hi and recirc. And note the ambient temp at that time.

Bummer. I've never replaced a clutch on one of these compressors, but others on here have. You might ask for help on how to do it, before you replace the unit.

The old clutch was rusted on, broke part of c-clip retainer shaft when I removed old one. Just going to get a new compressor with clutch complete. Any suggestions on places people to bleed the old freon out? Englewood fl.

My AC Compressor clutch has been squealing on and off for a few years now. Took me awhile to figure out what it was, but after changing serpentine belt found out it was the AC clutch. My condenser was starting to leak lately (at bottom line), so the time has come to replace condenser and compressor. To be clear my compressor didn't fail as far as I know. Got all the parts complete kit from RockAuto this week. Started trying to pull the compressor today after watching (Chrisfix it video). Well I broke the bolt to the low pressure off the compressor (I am changing anyways), and then finally got the top 2 mounting bolts off. I am having no luck getting the lower mounting bolts off the compressor. After almost 10 years in Canada the bolts are rusted in good. I can get good torque on the bolts but am afraid I will break both lower bolts. I am taking a break for the night and sprayed both bolts with liquid wrench for the night. Any other ideas?
Mostly just venting! but I don't think I can do anything else.
I did finish the night off with a positive by replacing the condenser with little trouble.

Spray the bolts again before you go to bed, do it again 1st thing in the morning. The longer it soaks, the better the chance of it working. Good luck!

Hey Peeps, I am a Jeep guy who recently had to do this job on my in law's Tacoma. Since this thread was part of my inspiration on the procedure, I thought it only fitting to join the forum and post my video of how to do it here. Thanks for the inspiration and I hope this helps!

Bought a used one from Toyota world salvage in sun valley for $100 and took the assembly off of that. Someone also sells just the assembly on ebay for about $125 and it comes with a year warranty. Both solid options. In laws just towed a jet ski 12 hrs round trip to Laughlin, NV and back icy cold in the Tacoma.

What kind of noise did you guys hear when your clutch was going out? My truck keeps making a kind of metalic clicking/popping sound when I go over bump and small inconsistencies in the road. Usually only when accelerating. I narrowed it down to the AC compressor area. I pushed on the ac hardlines and the compressor itself and could replicate the noise, but I have no idea what exactly is causing it. Any ideas?

It was a sort of screech followed by a burning smell and smoke while under operation. You can visually inspect the front of the clutch to see if there are any defects in the face. If you need to see the difference between a good and a burned clutch, refer to the video above. If the clutch is bad, the plates on the front of the compressor could possibly be clanging against one another when you hit a bump. If the clutch looks fine, but you still have an isolated noise in the a.c. compressor area, take a mechanics stethoscope and put it up to the body( not the pulley) of the compressor. If you can hear the noise coming from inside the compressor, then most likely your bearings are going bad and you need to replace the entire unit, not just the clutch. Hope this helps!

Thanks man! after further inspection, it turns out the inner tie rod ends are bad and thats the cause of the noise.. What a pain in the ass. Cant wait to get them replaced and get this noise out of there.
