My inner boot tore and I caught it quickly so I believe I will be okay with rebuilding the stock half shaft. The truck has 205k on it so I decided to buy the kit with both inner and outer boots and repack the spider and the birfield.

I ordered and received the boot kit with both the inner and outer boots, 4 packs of grease, clamps, clips etc. I have the half shaft out of the truck, cleaned up and on my bench.

Forgive me if this covered somewhere but I can't seem to find it...

    1. The kit comes with four packs of grease. A large and small black and a large and small gold.
Which goes where and why? Does anyone have the service instructions for this kit?
or Would I be better off using M1 synthetic and forgetting about the Toyota grease.

    2. The spider was a b**** to get off. In my judicious use of a rubber mallet I knocked one of the bearing rings off the spider. It doesn't appear to be damaged so I assume I can just pop it back on without any worries. yea / nay?

    3. The truck has a three inch lift with Icons and Built Right UCAs. Should I do anything with the inner boots to prevent future tearing issues. I have seen a couple people mention installing a zip tie spacer or something to keep the boot extended further on the axle shaft. Is this worthwhile or are the Toyota boots of sufficient quality that this is unnecessary?

    Thanks!

Is this driver side or passengers side? If drivers, did you have any vibrations up front while only in 2wd since you have a lift? If so that spider in the diff is no bueno and needs to be replaced. ECGS has the needed replacement and is considered to be manufactured much better than OEM.

I'll be looking to replace mine once I install my lift, even though as it stands I have no vibes from it. Hope your repair finishes up easily.

This is the drivers side. No vibrations. Just grease all over lol

I suspect the passenger side is soon to follow. I probably should have bought two kits.
