There's the frame; on that there are body mounts; on those is the body. If your frame and body are one thing, then you don't have a Tacoma. If your frame and body are touching, you have a messed-up Tacoma.

What he said. If they said it, they're idiots because they should know better. Since you said it, it's all kosher since you didn't know any different.

I don't know why this thread is even this long. Regardless of final cost, dealerships are not cheap and usually not the best place to even have most work done. Either take it to a local independent body shop with good reviews or buy a bumper and put it on yourself.

I just got back from a trip to Home Depot and on the way back stopped at the Toyota dealer where I examined rear bumpers on a half-dozen new Tacoma's--they had more but I saw a salesman coming and got out while I could.

To my eye there is nothing "wrong"--in the strictest sense-- with the OP's bumper. it and the bed appear to not be as well aligned as I (and the OP) would like, however as compared to the six I just saw it is a bit better than two, the same as one, and a bit worse than the last two.

So I do not believe anything has "popped", it's just the way they slapped it together when it was made. As others have said re-aligning the bumper and bed is a relatively trivial task--if a dealer did indeed tell him $10k it was just their polite way of saying GTF out of here...

yep going to get an bumper and install it myself. Or check to see if another dealer is better. I feel like the first will be less of an headache and way cheaper.

You do not need a bumper--it's just that it and the bed are misaligned...

On my '09, which I bought last October, the alignment is off by 1/8", 3/16" or so left-to-right--has been since the day I bought it but I have had a bunch of other stuff to worry about since then--mowing the lawn, drinking beer, fixing a hole where the rain gets in, changing the injector jet in our iron filter, drinking beer, going to see a brand shiny new great-grand-daughter, drinking beer, raising the rear of my seats so I can die in a crash and be denied by my insurance (but be much more comfortable up until that happens), make a shift lever sleeve/adapter so I can use an 8-ball knob from my Mustang. etc.

I understand it's a brand new "Toy" and all, and to be honest it would probably bug the crap out of me, however advice from an old man is don't get yourself into a "groove" over it...

    Did I mention drinking beer?

If you pay me $5,000 I'll fly out to Indiana, magically fix your bumper (you can't watch, it's secret sorcery magic) and I'll plstidip it and your grill so they both match your wheels and badges.

Dude, trust these guys, YOU CAN FIX THIS YOURSELF! The tools to do it will run you under 25 bucks. Unless of course you're just trying to get your dad to foot the bill for a new rear bumper out of sympathy?

Now, you came on here with this absurd story so you opened the door for whatever crazy comments you get from everyone. That's how forums work. No one here is calling you a liar, yet, and for the most part, really are trying to lead you in the right direction. You really just need to take all the joking with a grain of salt. I've seen OPs break a lot sooner so kudos to you for hanging tough. Just know what you do or say on here can stay with you a long time, and there are a lot of guys (and gals) on here willing to go through a lot to help. Don't destroy that with your first thread asking for help.

Could we please see a picture of a document from the dealer with this $10k estimate on it?

Haha truee but we made my dad do the talking since he's the best at it (i guess not anymore). I am 17 and my mom and I share the car but on the most part I'm trying to work whenever i'm not busy with school to mod up the car. I do apologize for getting salty at the previous comment, as i'm usually lighthearted and easy going. But I do want to thank you for giving me a heads up with those tips and warnings :D And that's true I guess I should have known posting it, as it sounds ridiculous to the moon and back. Thanks again for the heads up Rob :D

You do realise that my "buck and a half" was a "buck and a half LARGE"--right, if so I'm buying...
