I have owned nothing but manuals in my life, this truck is by far the most difficult to get reverse. Sometimes requires moving forward a few times and or pushing the clutch in and out several times. I usually don't mind unless I am parallel parking or backing into a space and others are waiting.

I've never had any kind of difficulty like that. the only difficulty i get, if you call it that, is the aim need to be just right to get into R and it takes more push to engage it, but just that. never had to move the vehicle or work the clutch for R, not once... even before it was broken in.

Yeah this truck is just really finicky guess, 1st thru 6th are absolutely buttery smooth. The location of Reverse is not an issue to me, my 08 and 15 were in the same spot.

Test drive both if possible. In my area it's almost impossible to find a 6spd on the lot. I really recommend getting the 6spd tho. I've driven both and find it more fun and less obnoxious than the auto. Just my opinion.

As you've read, 6MTs are a little harder to come by. I found my 6MT TRD Off road with the premium technology package and I knew that truck with those options is even harder to find. I much prefer driving a manual. I have no complaints in regards to the transmission, but my clutch petal creaks/squeaks when it's hot outside. The only thing I wish mine had was the push button ignition. I love it and would buy it again in a second. But to each their own. Go find a 6MT and drive it.

The dudes that complain about manual being difficult in traffic are the same to do the following:

-Come out the shower with a towel around their head.
-Help ex-gf move her stuff into new bfs house.
-Shakes hands after the first date
-Gets matching ankle tattoos with GF.
-Gets wanted star in GTA and turns himself in.
-Walks in on GF cheating on him and says "sorry I came in at a bad time" and leaves.
-Has nightlight on before he goes to bed.

Use disc brake grease on the pivot points of the clutch pedal and that creaky old barn door sound in hot weather will go away.

    Too few to list.
I currently have a '15 DC 4x4 with the 4.0 in auto. Before that, also had an '09 DC with the 6speed in 4x4. When the 16's were first coming out, I test drove an AC pre-runner and a DC 4x4 in auto. In my opinion, even though HP is more and torque is the same it felt under powered compared to the 4.0 until about 4K+ rpms. I immediately scoured the dealerships to find me my '15. Fast forward to two weeks ago, local dealership had a '17 DC in 4x4 manual. I test drove it and it was much better than the auto. The clutch was soft and the shifter was smooth unlike the notchy feel of the 2nd Gen though it still did not have the pull that the 4.0 have. So I say you test drive both auto and stick and you will have a clear winner.

    BTW, I opted to pick up a '17 AC 4x4 4cyl.

No problem bro, I tried many different greases on my 2nd and 3rd Gens and the Disc Brake Grease is the only one that worked, I think the high temperature makes regular greases melt away.

Hey screw you guy! I love my nightlight.

On topic, get the stick, dont look back. Also, reading alot of comments in this thread makes me feel like some of you guys don't know "the trick".

Let me blow your mind for a second. If you try to put a stick in gear, be it forward or reverse, and it doesn't go, don't take it clear out and push the clutch in and out or whatever. Just apply pressure on the gate and slowly let out the clutch. Once it gets to the friction zone, the stick will fall into gear smooth as silk.

This is also a necessary trick on motorcycles sometimes since they all seem to have days where they don't want to go into first.

I mean if we're counting those, I can count the streamlights on either my handgun or the wife's semi-auto 12 gauge. But without dat hello kitty nightlight we might stub our toes getting to them!
