Good evening boys. Looks like tomorrow I will be painting my door/tailgate emblems black with a buddy of mine. I am about to have a TRD Pro grille insert on the way so i am not going to bother with the grill emblem right now. Also, I will likely be replacing the V6 emblem with a TRD emblem in the near future.

Anyways, I am leaning MORE towards matte but I am not sure if gloss or matte is going to look more CLEAN. I haven't found many good pictures of gen 2 Silver Sky Tacomas that show the whole truck and not just a portion of the door. I would like to get some of your input on this guys.

KEEP IN MIND: I am likely not going for a scrappy look with this truck in he future. I want it to look pretty clean. After he PRO grille insert I may not be doing much exterior modding/upgrading for some time if I like the look. Thanks in advance for any advice or input offered! Without further adieu here are some current pics: IMG_3958.jpg

Dude I would honestly debadge it. I feel like when you paint them black it distorts what they look like from a distance. Unless they stay chrome I would take them off all together. But if you want to keep them I would go gloss black.

I would, but I am honestly not a big fan of the debadged look. It feels a little too plain to me when I see debadged Tacomas. I can see why people would do it, but I don't think I would like it as much.

Yeah if your not into that look than I would go gloss black. I think it's cleaner than matte. Just my 2 cents man. Go with what you like better. You can paint it matte and then if you don't like it just hit it with a clear coat. Bam you got gloss black.

    Matte black for dingy look.
    Gloss black for cheap look.

    Debadge for clean look.

After all, you asked for my opinion ;):D

Id prefer gloss personally, but match to your rims.

The thing with debadging tacomas.. it's about the lines. Our trucks have really clean straight body lines that don't fixate on any kind of badges. Some cars and some trucks do..
Removing them takes the clutter out of the picture. Of course, IMHO. It'll look nice whatever you choose.

Edit: let me rephrase that a little bit.. I sound blind. obviously the truck isn't boxy, and mostly the lines are not straight. What I mean is the body lines on the lower door where the badges are.

Rims are not quite matte but aren't gloss. The KMC RG1's... the spokes are more of a matte while the outlying section with the silver studs are is slightly more shiny, but still not truly gloss. Kinda confusing hahaha

Honestly if you can't decide, grab a can of plastidip and try it out. It gives the matte look(which I prefer and have in my badges). And you don't like it then just peel it off and gloss them. Best thing too is, you don't have to remove to badges to plastidip like you do painting them. If you don't like it and peel it off, you're only out half a can of 6 buck plastidip.

I'm of the opinion no one really looks at your badges, and if they do and show dislike, something rotten crawled up their backdoor and stayed. Primarily, no one has to like them but you.

Do two coats of matte, look at it. Do 3 more of gloss over that if it's garbage. Or dip as mentioned. It's what I did, liked it enough, and went Satin instead.

I prefer matte for the badges on the body. To me though, the front emblem on the grill being matte makes it look like the badge fell off. I have a custom grill with matte black mesh with TOYOTA letters on that. They are black and I'm not sure I like it. They kinda get lost into the mesh.

Or you could go in between with a satin finish. Hit it with some matte or flat black and then put a satin clear on top of that. Not too flat, not too glossy. More often than not when you can't lean one way or the other, it's just right.

Ordered my TRD Pro grille insert last night. The TOYOTA letters are staying silver, because as I said I am looking for a silver WITH black look and not a black and silver look persay (if that makes sense lol). Part of the reason I'm keeping he stock grill emblem chrome is also because I really dislike the look of a black grill emblem on black grill so I am with you there. I'm gonna head to lowe's now and grab paint... All kinds of different paint hahaha

I think I may end up going that route after all is said and done. Semi matte semi gloss... but we shall see
Yeah I can see why you would want to see how it turns out hahaha. Honestly I think 2015 TRD is my favorite year so lucky you. 3rd gen noses remind me too much of submarines & marine animals

I like the pro TOYOTA letter colors. That's the color I'm planning to change mine to.

Matte paint has a tendency to REALLY show things like Wax if it gets into the "Pores" of the paint if you hand wax the truck, and it's a bitch to get out. Gloss paint will let it just be rubbed off like any other gloss surface.

I think that the choice is strictly individual. That meaning it's only cool to you and you only. So go with your gut feeling and do that.
