What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Got it. So silicone is an option for the other hoses - what is the benefit? Longer lasting?

 

Does the hose end in the core support right there? What is that filter on the engine - it looks bigger than a stock one although I haven't taken mine out of the box yet - too busy with other stuff atm.

Edit: On my computer now and it looks like a regular size filter.

 

Retains it's elasticity well and can be routed easily. Plus it comes in different colors

Does anyone have their antenna assembly that they are not using? My antenna broke inside the mast and I don't want to pay for a new one if I can find a used one here. Thanks guys.

 

I have one off my rolled truck if you want it. The antenna is bent but the holder is good.

 

Ok, I need some diagnosing. It's not the taco, it's the GF's 2003 dodge B2500 camper van. We are experiencing traffic related overheating issues. On the highway, or moving at a constant rate all is fine. Stop and go traffic and the temp gage rapidly climbs to the high end. After a couple minutes at speed, it rapidly plunges down to normal. On the temp gage, slightly under vertical, it's around 200, high is about 250.

When 1st noticed and we pulled over the coolant overflow tank was very low, it has since been filled. Oil was maybe a half quart low. Coolant and oil additions are not helping.

We parked for an hour, drove highway for 10 minutes, exited and after 5 minutes looking for parking, it was back up again.

To me, this sounds like poor coolant circulation at low speed or idle. Is this the water pump?

EDIT: solved, low coolant. DOH!

 

check and make sure your radiator fan is working right, classic sign of that. Water pump usually would cause temp to rise under acceleration because its not able to keep up flow with the load.

 

Its even simpler, radiator low, I thought it would draw from overflow. FAIL.

so simple, doh!

 

Keep an eye on that - that coolant is going somewhere unfortunately.

Looks nice, i didn't clean there on mine, it was in pretty decent shape I think.

 

I just wire wheeled it and wiped it down with acetone. Figured I'd get'r cleaner under there while I could reach it. There was an arc of oil clumps above the first driveshaft u joint. Wire wheel took care of that quick like and the rest just had salt and dirt residue from 10 years of off-roading trips without washing the underside.

Rustoleum Professional Spray paint is the bomb for this. Tall cans of really durable paint that spray upside down until almost empty for $5 at wally's world and $6 at HD.

 

I think you're onto something here - crank the ac and put it right in front of the vent!
