So i got some gear to upgrade the non JBL system in the Tacoma. Originally I planned on a front component set, keep the stock head, add some rear coaxials, etc... I ended up getting the ARC Audio XDI 6.2 component set. I heard this set at a shop while I was out of town, and thought it was a very decent set, so I bought them. Got a really good price on em too ($150). Had to get an amp to push them and got the ARC Audio XDI-804 which pushes 80 watts rms @ 4 ohms for four channels. I currently have an Audio Controls LC6 since I didn't originally plan on a sub... (but I ended up getting a Digital Designs LE-S 6 -1/2") This little thing can put out some lows!!! I ain't even kidding!!! It shocked me to hear how much power it could take as well. A guy had a 1000 watt amp pushing it (with the gain turned way down) and I thought he had a 10" or 12" sub until he showed it to me. Anyway it's extremely small, and with the space restrictions in the Tacoma... I broke down. So now I need an Audio Controls LC7I to restore the bass roll-off of the stock head unit at higher volumes. It also means the ARC amp is out, and being replaced by a Digital Designs D5.500 as I do not want to run more than one amp. I also went with the Raamat for sound deadening, and Taco Tunes supplied all the plug and play harnesses. Still have not decided if I will waste my time and money on rear speakers. Now I gotta put it all in, and I have no idea when I will find time since I work constantly.
I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I should bridge the four channels @ 4 ohms to push the components to 240 watts each, and run 500 watts @ 1 ohm to sub. Or add rear stage and run 90 watts to four channels plus sub? I like a rear stage, but I it seems like a waste of money. I also ain't sure if I can keep the stock rears in and just leave those on head unit? Probably wouldn't hear them anyway with 980 watts!
