I have a base 2017 SR tacoma with non hd or nav entune radio. Can i swap with the upgraded radio with nav hd radio? The reason i ask is because i own a 2015 jeep grand cherokee and had the base uconnect radio in there with 5in or 3 in screen. I was able to swap out the base radio with the 8.4in ra4 unit and get nav hd radio ect.. the jeep being base still had all the connections behind the radio not being used or connected to anything. It was plug and play. I wonder if behind the base sr tacoma radio if there are wires back there just sitting like in my jeep.

Try pulling off the panels and just taking a look to see for yourself. It's not at all terribly difficult to pull apart and piece back when need be. Sorry this isn't the answer your looking for, but pulling off panels is an easy task in these trucks.

any update on this mod? currently looking into this upgrade. opuradio.com has aftermarket entune with nav for a very good price (search part # 86100-04160 on site), dealership said it would cost in the thousands from them.

If the ends are the same, you will still need the antenna for the nav. See if you can find your head unit on EBay, most people show a picture of the back of the radio and then look up a h/u with nav and compare the pictures.
