Well it's done. I stuck with matte for now, but since my TRD pro grille and TRD Pro badge are both on the way I will be using the waiting time as a trial period to see if I want to add either a satin clear coat or gloss clear coat. I also have some semi gloss and gloss black paint if I want to mess around with that too before clear coating.

My friend and I actually waxed both his Silverado and my Tacoma while we were waiting for coats to dry. Waxed around the tape, and then once I put the badges back on I used one of the wax soaked microfibers and carefully waxed around the badges, so I don't anticipate that being an issue if I stick with matte.

Edit- I'll get some pics up sometime this week. Gonna be busy with work 12 hours tomorrow so it will have to wait at least until Monday or Tuesday

Just saw this. Yeah I think especially for my color combo the pro grill lettering is gonna fit very well. When you change yours to silver let me know how it turns out

Flat black w/no clear coat. TRD badge will be here by the 28th or 29th and then I am going to guinea pig the v6 emblem with a satin clear coat

    1. Taped them off
    2. Flossed them off with fishing line. Rubbed off the goo from the truck and back of the badges. Sanded the badges (and also the back of the badges to get rid of any inconsistency in the surface from leftover goo)
    3. Automotive Goo Gone for the leftover residue on the truck
    4. Sprayed 3 coats of flat black paint (metal/plastic/etc 2-in-1 paint + primer spray paint)
    5. 3M double sided tape on the back of the emblems
    6. Re-apply using the tape for reference

I got my TRD badge and sanded it & sprayed it a few times and stuck it where the V6 badge was. The V6 badge looked pretty much exactly the same after 2-3 coats of satin clear coat, so soon i will be removing all of them again and clear coating them with the satin clear coat before I stick them back on. They look good now, but they will fade faster and get scuffed more easily without the clearcoat so I am gonna just do the work and clear coat them in the next few weeks.

I recommend a heavier fishing line like 20lb ocean line. It's gonna snap sometimes but it's honestly not bad.

No problem. I would try and spray in an area where there isn't much air moving, and on a day with low humidity. I noticed that other people who had issues or inconsistent results were spraying in high humidity. I was spraying in a garage and then opened up both side doors and the main garage door to get air moving once the paint was down. Waited anywhere from 30-60misn between coats

I'd get some touch up paint and do it in Silver Sky

Going for a Silver w/black look. I would debadge if I wanted badges the same color as the truck itself. TRD Pro grille is going in tomorrow i think, so I am curious to see how everything looks with that in.

Personally, I thought the black badges were a little too much, but the debadged look was to plain looking. I ended up going with satin black die cut vinyl decals in the same size and font as the stock badges. Gives it a different, kind of stealthy look. Just another idea.
