They don't really provide any protection at all and actually are damage multipliers for parking lot bumps as they tend to roll into the grill when hit at low speed. That being said, it's your truck - if you like the look, then go for it.

This was after a wheeling trip. I honestly have no clue where it happened but I do know it saved my bumper. That being said... I got mine for free from another member. If I wanted lower cost bumper protection I'd get the Avid bumper guard. The best is obviously steel then aluminum bumpers depending on your weight restrictions.

Two weeks after installing a bull bar, I had a semi throw a retread at me going 70 mph on the interstate. It slammed into the bull bar and went under my truck. Big gouge in the paint of the bull bar, but not a scratch on the bumper. So my bull bar paid for itself in short order.

This was one of my first mods. Big mistake. Save your money for better mods.

Don't put anything on the front that is not bolted to the frame. It is a damage multiplier otherwise.

I've seen them on CL for like $50, so you might be able to find one cheap. That way if you don't like it you didn't spend too much on it.

If I could go back I would of gotten the stock skid plate instead of a bullbar.

I have the Westin bull bar and had been thinking about removing it (and selling it to buy a roof rack or hitch bike carrier...) until I was following somebody too close on the interstate and didn't see a big fresh branch that fell off of a truck and went right over top of it. The branch dug right into the grill of my bar, bent then snapped, dumping the other half behind. When I took a look after stopping, it appeared the way the branch hit would have likely stabbed my radiator. I wouldn't trust it against much but damn did it pay for itself that day.

Of course, a factory skid plate would have given me the same protection!

Keep an eye out on the Deals section. There is a guy over there (@Unchained 5150 ) that gets a ton of deals on OEM stuff. Got my Skid plate for $149 last year.

Bull bars are a truck's version of a car bra on a Honda Civic, nothing attractive happening there. But we live in a free country which gives us all the right of choice. Some just choose unwisely.

This is for all you guys who say bull bars are worthless. My buddy hit a deer here in PA. The bull bar was destroyed, but the truck escaped any.. I said ANY ...damage.

I think they make the front of the truck look like Jimmy Durante. A bit nose heavy.
