SAFD doesn't use scba and bunker gear like some dept do. Weighted vest etc in a more controlled environment. But all good advice.

Good luck! Hope you get it.

Good luck, though I work for the City I support the SAFD all the time. Been involved with the 5 of the 6 stations being built in the past couple of years.

Good luck to all the first responders (if you're in this thread) this weekend, stay safe with Hurricane Harvey coming in!

I'm working today. I get off at 9am tomorrow, so I'm hoping to miss most of the mess. I was working for the last round of flooding, .. time to let someone else play in the water if I have my say so. ha ha. I'm just hoping all the folks on the coast don't receive too much damage. It has the potential to be a messy one.

Hopefully so friend, I'm hoping its not too bad for them either. I have my 12 hour watch shift tomorrow which might extend to 24 hours if it gets too hairy tomorrow. Then I've got to drive on Sunday morning to Ft Hood. Its going to be an interesting weekend.

I hear ya. Have a safe trip to hood. I used to work at Killeen FD and drove from Medina Lake every shift, back in 93/94 .. that sucked. They were offering us overtime to work the shelters tomorrow, but I think I'm gonna go home and hunker down with my wife and daughters.. maybe do the wet weather thing and watch some movies or tinker in the garage on the trucks.

I talked to a guy who worked a shelter today. The shelters have provisions for people with service dogs. Dog food, and the like. Today someone demanded that they provide carpet grass for the dogs to shit on. So, what did they do? They spent some tax dollars on 3 pallets of carpet grass for the dogs to shit on. It never ceases to amaze me the demands people, who are being provided a free service in a time of need, will make. They get 3 meals a day there, and snacks are available between, and someone has already called the New York post and claimed they were only being fed chips. Obviously their bus arrived between meal times, so instead of asking, .. boom.. right to the complaint counter.. the American way. We're doomed... this country is doomed. It's this way every single time shelters are provided, one reason I don't work them. Oh well.. rant off.. I know they're frustrated. But jeez.. people, no one owes you anything.

One of the local channels went to coast and can't find a gas station open in order to keep driving around

You'd think a storm chasing vehicle would have an extra capacity gas tank
