I see a lot of quarreling over the Honda Ridgeline vs the Tacoma, and I wanted to share some thoughts.

First, I think they are both very nice vehicles. While the Ridgeline seems to be hybrid/crossover truck, the Tacoma kept most of its "truck" heritage. As far as modifiable, off road truck's go, Technically, the two vehicles barely compare.

While the Ridgeline has some off road capable features, it is not cheaply, and readily, capable of being as hardcore as the Tacoma can be made to be. That said, stock vs stock, there is not really a night and day difference in capability between the two when similarly opted. Though, to be fair, I think the Tacoma Edges the Ridgeline in the off road category.

People are steadily changing needs, and various fads are on the rise. There is now a greater need for crossover type vehicles. A truck/car crossover, with luxurious appointments, can now statistically pull a premium, and that is exactly where the Ridgeline sits. In fact, in my opinion, the Ridgeline did this better than any manufacturer in history. The Ridgeline edges out the Tacoma here.

There is a small overlap in drivers that would buy a Ridgeline for its versatility or might buy a Tacoma for the same desired versatility. I am talking about those seeking the crossover type vehicle. They may be better match with the Ridgeline, expecially if they are used to driving a car like vehicle. In that overlap, I believe the Ridgeline wins hands down. For everyone else seeking a serious truck, the Tacoma wins hands down.

So the real issue is this: what sandbox are you playing in? Are you an off roader? Consider the Tacoma the better choice. If you are mostly a commuter, but want off road capability, then the Ridgeline may be the better choice. As far as looks goes, this is absolutely in the eyes of the beholder and is a personal opinion.

I personally teetered and eventually bought the Tacoma. On the road, I am sure the Ridgeline would be nicer for my tastes. Though my personal convictions landed me in a Tacoma.

Cheers, and try to keep it civil.

If you buy a ridgeline you have to sit down to pee for the entire time of ownership

I don't know how the ridge line drives or what it's capable of, but it looks like an accord with a bed. And I'm a looks guy, so the thought never even crossed my mind in lieu of purchasing a Tacoma

It's not even a truck. It has a unibody frame. It's basically a Honda Pilot with a bed. My wife looked at a Honda Pilot before settling on a 4 Runner. The Pilot was too much like a car for her.

This is comparing apples to oranges. Maybe a better comparison would be the Ridgeline to the Highlander. They have more similarities.
