Best radio replacement for 06 tacoma

I just bought my son an 06 tacoma and he doesn't like the factory radio. Any suggestions on a good radio? Being a teenager he is interested in the touchscreens with Bluetooth.

 

Alpine INE - W960 is the one that I used to replace my factory radio with. Bluetooth, Steering Wheel Controls and Navigation. It was a little expensive but sounds great.

I just got the kenwood Dnx773s used on ebay which is awesome. Any of the dnx decks are nice.

 

That one looks good, but i didn't see the steering wheel controls with it. Are they sold separately?
Also, with the GPS, does it update automatically or will it be out of date in a year, i.e. Road changes, construction etc?

 

The steering wheel controls were sold separately.. I think around $125.00. It uses NavTech Maps. They can be updated manually.

 

I would recommend Pioneer. I had a shop that sold car audio and the Pioneer stuff always lasted longer than and was less prone to issues. Alpine is also a good one. Sony, JVC, Kenwood & Clarion all had more returns and warranty claims at our shop.

 

He has an Apple iPhone. Is his radio compatible with the iPhone?

 

I got the Crux wiring harness to interface with the steering wheel controls for around $25, but it appears the price went up to $70. The Alpine is a really nice unit, and it can handle a back-up camera, too.

 

I would get the the bigger screen, I put the smaller one in and with the angle the display doesn't show up well

Yes. Iphone u can mirror the image on screen.

 

I installed a Pioneer 4200 a few weeks ago. Worth the money, but not cheap. Great with iPhone.

 

I put the $99 JVC in mine (from Amazon) . The XM tuner/antenna had a rebate so it was basically free. Dash kit was from eBay.

I am not a fan of touchscreens, I have a Pioneer AVH-5500 in my Tundra and I hate it, the "buttons" aren't responsive enough and I can't see anything when the sun hits it.
